Baby Got Extra Vaccines?

New member and new mom. My baby is 4 months old and was born emergency section. Because of this, my birth experience is a blur. We were just looking at vaccine history and were surprised to see that there was an order for Hepatitis B vaccine at 2 weeks old. That is usually given at birth. I didn't have a vaccine card and don't remember if my baby was vaccinated at birth but never signed anything to say we were refusing it. Why would my baby get it again? I'm upset because that's one vaccine that I probably wouldn't have urgently needed and my baby got double doses within a couple weeks. We go to a busy pediatrician and they haven't called back. Are there any medical people here who can tell me if this is unsafe for my baby? I'm angry that they didn't bother to look into this before injecting my baby for a second time. My baby got the 2 month Dtap/Hep b combo so this will mean 5 total doses of Hepatitis B vaccine by 6 months old!! Nervous about that being too much when only 3 is recommended. Thank you!!!!

Edited to add: We checked out our birth pamphlet and our hospital administers the Hepatitis B at birth so there's no reason I can think of why they wouldn't give it then and why our pediatrician concluded that my baby needed another one 2 weeks later :(

What can I do next?

Was the baby premature since you had an emergency C-section? My first were premies by 6 weeks and they held off on some vaccines until they were about 2 weeks (which is about the time of discharge). You can request the hospital record to see if it was administered at birth.

I was going to say the same. Premature babies or babies born with complications sometimes have vaccines delay.
They will be able to let you know.

i would call the hospital and request the records to know for sure. theres many reasons an emergency delivered baby would have that vax delayed so your kid may not of got one at birth. you need to see actual records before you start worrying about complications from getting an extra one.
start making phone calls and getting the facts. once you have the facts talk to the childs dr about future vaccines and wether or not you want to skip some or all of the rest or continue to vax on schedule.

Not sure how you figure 5 doses. It is normal to dose at birth, and normal to dose in the first 2 months. 3rd does is done anytime between 6 - 18 mos. That is 3 doses. Sounds right to me.

It is perfectly normal for a birth dose and a 2 month dose - your 4 month old has had 2 normally timed doses and you control when he/she gets the 3rd dose.

Good luck.
