Lilyanne - One day she will read Anne of Green Gables - the main character always wished she could be Anne with an "e" as opposed to just "Ann"
This is a dumb question but I can't make up my mind on the spelling of my babys name. Please help. Should it be Lilyann Elise or Lilyanne Elise. I don't know if I should add the E at the end of her name or not. Thanks.
It should sound like Lily Ann(e) not Lillian.
Lilyanne - One day she will read Anne of Green Gables - the main character always wished she could be Anne with an "e" as opposed to just "Ann"
I would go with LilyAnne. Adding the extra capital will help distinguish it from Lillian. And I always liked "Anne with an e" (a la Anne of Green Gables)
I have a job where I enter children's names a large part of the day and I would pronounce Lilyann as Lillian. LilyAnne or Lilyanne look better to me.
If you want it pronounced "Lily Ann" (which is very pretty!!) then please do consider spelling it as such, with the separate names and space between them. Otherwise it will be pronounced as "Lillian" constantly, or people will ask you all the time, "How do you say that?" and you, then your daughter, will spend a lifetime correcting people. It is not fun constantly to correct people's mispronunciation of a name, when they could pronounce it correctly if it were spelled in a visibly logical way. You can have an E or not on the Ann(e). One little space is all you need in this case to get the lovely sound you want without the hassles of correcting teachers, parents, friends, relatives. (I have a last name that is difficult to pronounce for many folks so I know what it's like to have to correct, correct all the time...No other spelling would help that, though.)
There is no reason at all she can't be "Lily Ann Elise Smith" on her birth certificate. It IS all right to give a child more than one name between the first and last ones as long as you're prepared to squeeze them onto forms forever. My daughter has three names before her surname and so do I, and we love them all.
Is it supposed to be pronounced Lily Ann? Or Lillian? If the first, then either way makes sense. If the second, then I'd use the standard "Lillian" spelling.
I like adding the E it makes it more elegant looking :) Congratulations!!
To get the correct pronunciation, I think you need to add the 'e'.
After reading the other responses, I have to say I like LilyAnne. I know it wasn't one of your original choices ;-) but either way, I like Anne with an E. It would avoid the Lillian confusion and still keep one first name.
Lillian Elise would be so lovely. If it's supposed to be a double first name, I would just go with Lily Ann Elise although Lily Anne Elise is just as pretty. It looks less awkward and more elegant to me to have a double first name that's not smushed together or hyphenated.
When I read Lilyann I thought it was pronounced Lillian...I think most people will think that is what you are going for. Also it kinda makes me think Libyan all smooshed together-I know I am weird.
I love the suggestion of Lily Ann or Lily-Ann or even LilyAnn. Though personally, as a Anne of Green Gables fan, I like my Ann w/ a E. :)
Just need to distinguish that you are not trying to cr8ti>lee spell Lillian. :)
My kids both have hyphenated middle names and we have had no problems. They are considered one name (initial).
You have picked a beautiful name! Congrats!
HTH!
definitely with an "e"!
I am not sure what is right, but try and go with the norm. My daughter's name is Ruby and I really wanted to spell is Rubey for some reason. My brother is Bryan with a Y and he said he has spent his whole life correcting people. I thought about that and went with the "proper" spelling if that makes any sense.
I like Leigh's idea. However, iIf you make it one name, I would leave off the e on the end and capitalize the A or I think a lot of people will pronounce it Lillian. So, I would do LilyAnn Elise. All the best in naming your little girl. Elise was on the top list of names for girls for me. So, I think it's beautiful...
I like it without the "e" because no child wants to spend their whole life having to spell their name. Either way, it's a beautiful name! How elegant!
I like Lilyann best. If you want it pronounced Lily Ann then you should insert the space between the two names otherwise it would more than likely be pronounced Lillian.
LOVE THE NAME YOU'VE CHOSEN....GREAT JOB.
I like Lilyanne Elise...They both end with the "e" :)
I like it with the E for one reason.......
Most of her life she will not see her first and middle name together, just her first name will be written on countless papers through school and beyond. I prefer the stand alone version - Lilyanne
I agree with Nina K.
I have met several adults with names that their parents tried to spell so they would be unique. The adults are always having to spell them and double check documents to make sure the were spelled correctly. Some have even changed their names legally to the standard spelling.
Don't spell your child's name as if you were illiterate. William should NOT be spelled Wyllyum.
Lily Ann or Lily Anne is nice. But not if you really mean Lillian.
Good luck to you and yours.
Such a pretty feminine name :-) go for the "e"
congratulations !!
I like the E at the end as well. Pretty name!
i like the e. i like that lily and anne can stand on thier own
I like the E, it seems more finished with it!
.
Lilyann
Love it!
The extra "e" seems redundant.
Congratulations!
I wouldn't do the E. It just complicates things. Lilyann Elise is lovely. (I have a daughter named Anne, with an E, but she doesn't have Lily in front of it.)
I like Lilyann Elise.
I like Lilyanne Elise better, for the same reason someone else said, Lilyann looks like Lillian. Funny there's a singer on the voice right now named LIly Elise!
I like it spelled "LilyAnn" or "Lily-Ann"
Hyphenated names are ok ... or names with 2 parts, like my SIL: McKenzie (the K is capitalized) her name was spelled that way to specifically avoid her being nicknamed "Mac"- didn't work LOL... but the reasoning was there...
I would not confuse LilyAnn or Lily-Ann with Lillian. Even so, every name gets messed up sometimes, no matter what you pick... even my name "M." gets mispronounced and misspelled all the time! Oh well, such is life... most people will be corrected once or twice and then will get it just fine...
Good Luck!
