So I'm just about 2 weeks away from having a baby girl who remains nameless. I do have a name I like but it sounds a lot like our last name. Grier Greeson. I would love advice, comments and thoughts on this name. I like the name but don't want her to be made fun of. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I like Grier....but not with Greeson. :( You're right--too similar.

Might I also suggest Rileigh (Ryleigh, Riley), Parker or Peyton?

What about Katherine (Kate, Katie), Elizabeth (Liza, Beth).....?

I also love Sam (Samantha) for a girl.

Congrats, whatever the name you decide!

I read all the posts,, and guess Im the only one who likes the name Grier. Its different,, shes not going to find a lot of others with that name,, and she will be known by her first name and never confused with others. I can see the little problem with the last name but it gets easier with time to say it, just as it does with anyone else who has a double letter same sounding name. I can see her being called GG for short too. If you like it,, its all yours to choose. Think about the times in the future when her name will be said out loud to a group of people. Written in nice lettering on her high school diploma to announce her graduation... Grier Greeson.
And.. Do you Grier, take this man, to be your lawfully wedded husband? And when shes all grown up and president of some world wide company her name plate on her desk would look really nice, G. Greeson.

i like it. it's not like people are gong to be saying Grier Greeson every time they talk to her. :). i married a man whose last name sounds sort of like my first name. doesn't bother me any. and if she is getting a middle name it will break up the Gr's.

Since your asking, I think it sounds like a boys name. Personally I'd use it as a middle name, or if you plan on having more kids, save it for a boy.

The double GR is a little much. That's just my personal opinion. I would keep searching.

Our daughter would've been Alexis Catherine.

I like Olivia, Vivian, Veronica and Madison...those names aren't around a LOT and I like the way they sound.

GOOD LUCK and Congratulations!

I think that people would get a little tongue tied trying to say her name. You obviously like something about the name Grier Greeson, so maybe you can use it as a middle name. For example: Ashley Grier Greeson. I actually prefer it as a middle name.

I like the double G, but it does sound very similar....maybe another G name like Gabriella? Best of luck!

With our first, we didn't know the gender so we picked names that were named after each of us. We didn't want "juniors" though so we came up with alternatives. For the boy name, the middle name would have been Sawyer (one who saws or works with wood) because DH builds furniture as a hobby. Our daughter's middle name is a derivative of the meaning of my name. To be specific, my name is L., from Laura, of the Laurel leaves, aka victorious, so my daughter's middle name is Victoria. (Clever, no?) Anyway, could you do something similar with Grier?

hmm That doesn't sound like a girls name to me.
Why not look into your family histories and see if there's any names that stand out there.
My great great grandmother's name was Ava Kate and if I had another girl I would name her Ava Kate, I just LOVE the name .

I agree with most of the others - it doesn't flow very well. I tend to prefer traditional names, so it's not one I would choose with any last name. I think she will often be confused for a boy and people may often mispronounce it (some will say Greer, others will say Gry-er).

Congrats on your baby girl!

I don't think it works with your last name, just my opinion. I know when I see names that are like that I always wonder why the parents couldn't be a little more original. I would do it as a middle name if you really like it.

I think it sounds great. I love the name Grier. It is a strong, unique name. Our second daughter has a very similar issue... Harper Hoffman. However, I just love her first name so much, I decided to go with it. I am really happy with the decision. Her middle name is Anne. Her name will be easy for everyone to remember because of the similar beginning! There is a great Kevin Henkes book called Chrysanthemum in which a little girl goes to school and gets made fun of and after an encounter with a teacher who chooses to name her little girl Chrysanthemum she comes to realize what a special name she has. Anyway, we really like unique gender neutral names in our family. Go for it! :)

I'm not wild about Grier for a girl, but that's just me... Thinking as if you would go with it, the first thing I thought was nicknaming her 'GiGi' (derived from the initials, G.G.).

Personally, I prefer feminine names for girl. If you're looking for a G name, I like the sound of Gianna Greeson or Gorgette Greeson.

Sorry, I don't care for that name at all. I agree with H.B. that the double GR sound is too much. If you really like it, use it for her middle name.
