I never used a sling for my daughter but they seem to be pretty popular now and they look convenient. Does anyone have any suggestions? Which have you used and really liked? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Definitely take a trip over to Peppermint in Richardson so you can play with different types of carriers and see what will work best for you. There are SO many choices and *everyone* has different opinions on what they like best, and it can be very overwhelming to choose one.

The ladies at Peppermint are great and will help you as much as they can. They also have a class on Tuesdays at 10am and Wednesdays at 3pm.

Hi J.,

Congratulations on your new little one. Whew, I know you must be trying to keep cool about now!

You will love wearing your baby! Here is a website with TONS of info on baby wearing www.thebabywearer.com.

I use an unpadded ring sling most often. I also have a mei tai and an obi. I used a water ring sling for my dd last summer since she was an infant. That was very useful for taking her and her older brother to the pool! W/ my 5yrold ds, I bought an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder which is a padded sling, when he was an infant. It is nice, but not nearly as versitile as and unpadded ring sling.

I make ring slings that are really cute and affordable. I make them out of two coordinating fabrics and they have pockets which come in very handy! YOu can even pick out the fabrics you want so it can be completly custom made. I charge A LOT less than most slings you'll find being sold on the internet. I can also help you learn how to use it.

My friend makes really cute obis, but that is for older babies (can at least hold their heads up well).

If you think you'd be interested in one of my slings or my friend's obis feel free to contact me. Also, if you just would like some tips on wearing your little one once he/she arrives, let me know. I'd be glad to help, even if you don't buy one of my slings.

Also, if you sew and money is really tight, there are lots of patterns on the internet to make your own. You can buy rings at www.slingrings.com. Don't get rings from just anywhere because they aren't all strong and safe enough. That site also has links to patterns. If you search on www.youtube.com there are lots of how to baby wearing videos.

Good luck in your search.

I have a hotsling and love it. If you start them in it pretty early, they are used to the sensation. I kept my daughter's head almost covered for the first few months but now she is sitting up in the sling. Remember to select the correct size. There should be a sizing chart on-line. This is the size you are before the pregnancy too. Good luck.

I have a Maya Wrap, a ring sling, and I love it. I liked the Moby wrap but you have to spend time putting it on. With the Maya wrap you just put one arm through it and place baby. It seems to be less time consuming especially if there are older kids waiting for you.

I LOVE my Moby Wrap and just purchased a Gypsy Mama wrap. I found that the people at Peppermint Baby Boutique http://www.peppermint.com/grand-opening.html to be very helpful. You can chat with them online or go into their store. They are the same people as The Sling Station. The Sling Station site has a great comparison chart http://www.theslingstation.com/comparison-chart.html

My first daughter was colicky and the wrap was the only thing that even began to calm her down. Once she could face forward, she'd loved it even more. We took her on an Alaskan cruise when she was 4 months old and I didn't have to use a stroller at all. I now have a 6 week old and my older daughter is 16 months. My 6 week old lives in the wrap so I can chase the older one!

We have tried quite a few and our favorite is our unpadded ringsling which we got on ebay. It was custom made for us and it is the best thing I have ever bought! Some slings are to hot to wear in summer (baby bjorn), but this one is breezy and I love it! Oh and by the way, my little angel is 15 lbs and we have no problems even when he has a few toys in there with him.

I've got a NoJo sling, which I love. But, I haven't tried anything else! I have also heard good things about hotslings. I have much love for the sling. My baby was 9.5 lbs at birth, so I have to disagree with the person that said her baby was too heavy to use it. I still use it with my now 6 month-old, 16.5lb baby, and it's fine.

I have a 3.5 year-old as well, and I wasn't about to sit at home all day - it just wouldn't be fair to her. The sling saved me, especially in the early days when a Bjorn just wasn't feasible. Plus, the sling makes breastfeeding in public so, so simple. I'm a pretty modest person, so I wouldn't be comfortable nursing without the sling covering me. It covers me completely, though, so I've used it to nurse everywhere - the library, the zoo, even church. I can literally breastfeed while walking at the zoo, so it's incredibly handy.

Now that my baby is comfortable in the Bjorn, I usually keep both my sling and Bjorn with me - the sling if I need to breastfeed, and the Bjorn for all other purposes.

I have a maya wrap and loved it!! I used the kind that holds the baby in front like a back pack type thing (baby bjorn) and it's okay, but the wraps are sooo much better and more comfortable.

I loved my over the shoulder baby holder. I used it from birth to my 65 pound four year old - and at one point had to use it to carry my 9 month old in the front and my 3 year old in the back simultaneously. (We were on a nature walk, the weather turned quickly) I wouldn't choose to do that again, but the OTSBH held up just fine for two miles - until we got back to the building.

I didn't have one with my first and thought it would be nice to have one with my second. Well, my little angel weighed 9 lbs. 13 oz. and I could only carry him in the sling for about six weeks before he was so heavy it hurt my neck and shoulder. So, if you have a big baby like me, don't bother taking it out of the package, just return it. Congratulations on your baby on the way!!

I got mine from hotslings.com. I LOVED mine! It allowed my hands to be free to do other things and soothed the baby.

I love my Moby Wrap, but the gypsymama website has more ways to wrap it. When the baby gets older, I have a frame backpack that I *love* called a Gerry Carrier, look on ebay for one, they don't make them anymore, but the shoulder straps are so wide and it is so comfortable I can wear it for literally hours and not be hurting.
