B.M.
I've used both a Maya Wrap and a Moby. I have really liked them both at different times. Right now I'm totally happy with my Moby.
Hi Mamas! Do any of you know of a good baby sling? My 7 week old hates the carrier that I use, and I have always wanted to try a sling, just need a little guidance as to which one to get or stay away from. Thanks!
I decided to go with the Maya Wrap and I couldn't be happier! My baby loves it! My 2 year old daughter even likes to get in once in a while. Thanks for all your help!

I use the Maya Wrap and my baby and I both love it! It does take some getting use to. If you happen to know someone that has used one, a hands on demo from a pal is better than the DVD that comes with it. But it is so worth it. My baby is so happy and content when I wear her this way, and I enjoy the closeness also!
Also, I bought and returned the "Peanut Shell" - it was terrible. I think a part of it is that I am 'busty' and it just did not work for me and my lil girl.
I also have a Bjorn and we both like that as well - but we use that more to hike and be outdoors and stuff - not around the house.
I loved my Maya Wrap. Super easy to use. My daughter loved it!!!!!
I was just given the coolest sling/carrier for infanct to toddler front/back. It has a pouch for carrying stuff and has not rails. My cousin a family practice doctor with a VERY large delivery practice in OR (and mother of twins)told me about it. She said that all of her patients love it. It is called Ergo Baby Carrier. It comes with a DVD on how to use it in many ways.
I love my overtheshoulderbabyholder. It's idiot proof, can't break, and I use it with a 50 lb preschooler.
www.zolowear.com has the most beautiful slings, an instructional dvd, and fantastic customer support. They call it "baby wearing" and everything they have is ergonomic and very stylish. They've got some that are pretty basic and plain, all the way up to over-the-top luxury stuff that's even washable. I almost bought a super-fancy one from her when I thought I'd need to bring the baby to a formal wedding. She even has stuff for the guys. Even if you buy from somewhere else, you'll kick yourself if you don't at least check out her website.
I bought the Playtex side sling for my son to use. I used it quite a bit when he was younger. He has gotten heavier and I have hand problems, so I haven't used it lately. I liked it being on the side of me and it was easy to use. I got it at Babies R US and it has worked well and I would recommend it. The only issue was sometimes it would hurt my neck if I wore for a long time. I used it for short periods and it worked out fine.
My Mom bought me a wrap and I tried using it and I used it some with breastfeeding. It was very complicated and you had to follow directions on how to use it and I didn't use it as much, cause it was more difficult to use, in my opinion. She bought it from an internet site and the company had directions on the website that you could print out with pictures of how it was suppose to look.
I like www.hotslings.com. When I had my daughter 4 years ago, I found this site and the owner invited me to her house to be fitted for my sling. I even brought my own material for her to use. Her business has grown since then so I don't know if you can go to her house anymore but check it out anyway!
We used the Moby wrap & loved it. My husband and I were both able to comfortably carry our baby & I was able, after some practice, to nurse her while walking around.
I bought a peanut shell from www.goo-ga.com and I loved it!!! I didn't buy it until my 3rd child - and I totally wish I would have had it for my previous children. He spent many many hours sleeping in it when he was just weeks old - when I first ordered it. In fact, I still use it on occasion and he will be 2 this month. I like that the same sling I carried him around in at 5 weeks old, I can still use for him as a 23 month old. I carry him in a hip carry and it saves my arms sooo much. He was my latest walker - so my sling has been invaluable! :-D
I love my hotsling-startd using it at 3 wks & she is now 9 months and 20 pounds & I still use it daily! I got mine at the nesting place in grapevine & you can try them on-helpful b/c you need to get the right size. I also use the baby bjorn often but if I had to pick, I'd go with the sling.
I bought a NoJo sling at babies R us & used the heck out of it!
the Native Carrier is the easiset sling to use. No hard wrap around, buckles, ties or rings. You just slip it over your head. It comes in small, medium, large and extra large. I'D GET 2. one for you, and an extra large for your husband.
Brooke Shields was on Oprah with this sling and many celebrities are photographed using it.

I bought mine at the baby store in Northpark Mall.
