I've been out of school on maternity leave for 6 weeks and today I had to go back. My baby is breastfed, but she takes bottles from me alot of the time. A couple of weeks ago i went out with my sister and had a friend babysit. She couldn't get my baby to take the bottle all night. Then my sister went to pick her up and she wouldnt take it from her either, but as soon as i gave it to her she drank it. Today, she is not taking the bottle from my mom while i'm at school. Has this happened to anyone else?!

What can I do next?

Oh how I understand. My son (now three) would not eat from anyone but me. He refused all bottles (we tried EVERY single type out there). Some days he would only take four ounces in 8 hrs...I felt so horrible and cried and cried...Until one day someone said "give the care giver your shirt from the day before"...have them hold it close to the baby and see if that works. That worked until he was about four months old...then he went back to his old ways and we started using sippy cups! Don't fret about what others think either you have to do what you have to do. And yes, your baby will eat when she's hungry.

My youngest wouldn't take the bottle from anyone else for weeks. My hubby just kept trying. If baby refused he would stop and hand him to me. He tried multiple times every day for a few weeks and one day - he took it! Never had another issue. After that day anyone could feed him :) even his big brother. Give it some time and be patient and don't force it. Our pediatrician said if he's hungry enough he'll eat.

Oh yeah! My daughter would freak out every time I washed my hair and I tried to nurse when it was still damp. :( She flipped out totally when I walked in the room with curlers in my hair! Mom's never get a break!!
We got through it - she eventually had to eat and would break down and take a bottle from someone else. It's really hard. Try to "practice" this when you are home - give her the bottle, then pass her on to your mom, then back to you again. Then let her drink while in the other's lap and you are sitting next to them. Comfort her and all but just let the other one hold her. I am wondering if this is even making any sense. lol We had to wean ME away from my daughter until she felt comfortable eating with someone else. Worth a try! I hope other's have something else that's better! I just know it's really HARD to do the transition! God bless you!!

Be patient, eventually she will take it. They are stubborn little creatures
aren't they LOL. Just goes to show you they are born with their own
personality. Congratulations.

The other thing you can try is have the person who is holding your daughter take off their shirt. skin to skin contact is HUGE for a baby. She's used to cuddling with you and shirts/sweaters are rough. Also, have them position your daughter the same way you hold her when you feed her - so if you are nursing in the football hold and they are trying to feed in the cradle position the baby can get confused.

Good Luck!

She can still smell you in the house so why would she take second best when she could possibly have you? They are VERY stubborn, I was never able to give my kids a bottle and others would only succeed if she was extremely hungry and I was out of the house. Try different bottle types too. Good luck and congratulations on your little girl.
