BELLY FAT And HORMONES. What Is the Story?

There is quite a buzz on belly fat these days linking it to hormone in-balance. I, for one want to get rid of the belly fat which I now have since menopause. (Being a skinny Minny my whole life in size 5 petite this is a shocker to wake up cranky and can't fit into a size 12!) Who has tried the saliva test for hormones and is using natural hormone replacement and/or bio-identical hormones. What are your experiences? Does it get rid of belly fat? Tell me your stories!

Hi Gale,

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 29 and had to have a hysterectomy. I was launched into menopause. Talk about a shocker. Anyway, I met a doctor through a co-worker of mine and he has worked wonders for me. If you are interested contact me and I will get you his information. He works with only bio-identical hormones. I would recommend him to anyone. He works only with women in menopause now, but he was a gyno for years before he started this work.

I found a product endorsed by Dr. Rosedale that seems to be working extremely well. He's the man who Dr. Oz mentions on Oprah. I follow his plan (mostly) and use a supplement he's recently endorsed.

The idea is that your body changes as you get older, have children, enter menopause, etc. and your leptin hormone gets out of balance. Your brain thinks your in danger and stores fat - especially belly fat. When you re-balance leptin, your brain gets the right message and releases the fat.

It's working for me. I'm now down 20 lbs. (over several months) and my cravings have stopped.

Hi Gale:

I have been using a natural progesterone since 2007. I weighed 160 pounds last December and I am now at 140 pounds. So it has worked for me. From what I am learning, most women do not need extra estrogen, they need the progesterone (not progestin) to balance their hormones. I belong to a group that talks about hormone balance and what we go through as we age (menopause, etc.). I have a website that you may find the answers you need. Hi Gale,
Belly fat is a common problem in our society because we are becoming resistant to our insulin hormone by eating high glycemic foods. This also leads to Type II diabetes, heart disease and promotes inflammation in the body. Research is finding a relationship between a high glycemic diet, inflammation, high levels of free radical damage (oxidation)in our cells and the slow, undetectable onset of the majority of degenerative diseases that we suffer from today.
If you don't already know the difference between the good carbohydrates (low glycemic) and the bad carbs (high glycemic...spiking our blood sugar) you could try adjusting your diet. At our age we really must add exercise. And if you're not taking testosterone you could talk to your doctor about adding that. You're already making the right choice with the Bio-Identical hormones. Take a look at the vitamins you are using. We need a variety of antioxidants to neutralize the oxidation going on in our cells. But if you aren't taking a pharmaceutical grade supplement that is manufactured using the latest scientific findings you could be wasting your money and not protecting your body. Good for you to be asking for recommendations from others. Knowledge really is power, which is why this is such a great website because it gives us a place to share what we have learned with each other.

Hi G.,
I don't know about hormone replacement but my mom started seeing a doctor who practices the blood type diet and resets your digestive system. She has always had belly fat and after changing her diet she has lost weight, feels great and her tummy is flatter. I've seen some MAJOR changes in her and believe they have come from her change in eating.

My mom has done the saliva test and has been using natural hormone replacement creams and pills and although she feels better emotionally, she has not lost any belly fat at all. If anything, she has gotten bigger, but she is somewhat compulsive about food (especially sweets) and had both hip and knee surgery this year. Now that she is getting around better, she says she plans to get more exercise and start being good about food, so I will have to see.

As far as I know, the hormones that create belly fat are STRESS hormones. So try to relieve your stress level.

Hi, you have had many responses.. I would add one thing.. toxins store in fat cells and the fat cells become resistent to releasing those toxins to protect the body. I study was just completed and released recently with this info. It is important to lower your toxic body burden for long term effective weight loss.

Ive seen a friend and her daughter both shed a lot of fat, naturally, by going on an anti- candida diet. It basically cuts out the sugar, carbs, and fermented foods. It's the sugar that makes us fat.

Also consider doing a parasite cleanse. We all carry parasites in our digestive tracts and some can get quite large! Check out humaworm.com
