Best Hospital for Having First Baby

I am planning for my first pregnancy and was wondering which hospital in my area had nice birthing suites and good nurses and doctors. Good service is very important to me along with clean, comfortable, private rooms. I have been looking at Mt. Clemens General, Beaumont Troy, St. John's Warren and Henry Ford Macomb if they still deliver babies.

What can I do next?

I don't know about Beaumont Troy, but I have delivered all 4 of my babies at Beaumont Royal Oak and have had a fantastic experience every time. I absolutely love that hospital!

I always recommend the Beaumont hospitals for first-time moms. Unlike other hospitals in the area, Beaumont offers the Parenting Program for families and their first babies. It's a free service in which the mom can get breastfeeding support, calls at home from a Family Support volunteer after delivery, and (the best part, IMO) parenting groups that last for 6 months, starting when baby is about 3 months old. I can't say enough about the program - I am still close with the women in my parenting group, and my daughter is almost 6 - and I always mention it when I see posts like yours. :)

I delivered at St. John Main. It was nice and clean, nice nurses, and that's where my Dr. delivers. Also, they have a GREAT NICU which no one ever plans to use, but in case you need it, it's there.

Our ONLY complaint was that the the pull out lounge chair which made a single bed for my hubby looked like it was made in 1902 or something. However, I have visited friends at Troy Beaumont and Crittenton and they had no place for dads to sleep. the nurses gave my husband extra meals that they had so he didn't have to go out and find food.

I think the most important thing would be to find a Dr. you really like. they usually only have privledges at certain hospitals.

I delivered my first at Royal Oak Beaumont and my second at Troy Beaumont and had a great experience at both. Troy was a little more low key since they are not a big teaching hospital like Royal Oak. I agree with previous poster about their Parenting Program which is an awesome thing.

I delivered both of my kids at St. John Main and loved everything from the rooms, to my doctors and especially the nurses. They really made both experiences amazing and as a pp mentioned, the NICU and Special Care are amazing. We had to use them and I was glad for the support and care for both my little ones and myself.

Hi- Beaumont is the way too go. Both are really nice, except Royal Oak is a Level 4 Trauma Center, so they are equipped with everything in case of an emergency (my OBGYN pointed this out). The birthing suites are really nice with flat screen TV's and they have a professional photographer that comes in and takes photos of the whole family with the new baby. They are beautiful.
