Birth Control Options

Good morning moms. I am having a procedure done tomorrow called Essure (tubiligation). Now before having this procedure I had to have the Depo Provera shot (so I was told). I have had nothing but problem after problem with this shot. Anyway, after the procedure I have to use a backup birth control for 3 months, and I don't want (not going to) have this shot again. I was wondering besides condoms if anyone had any suggestions on what I could use for the next 3 months. I'm not sure if pills are a good option or not. Thanks

What can I do next?

Yes you can stay on the pill. Thid is what I did. Keep in mind that it may take longer than 3 months for the tubes to close. It took 6 months for mine.

If the Today sponge is back on the market(which I think it is), it is great. Easy to use and convenient, too. Then you are not adding more hormones to your body aftet the surgery, either.

I really liked the Nuva Ring when I used it. It never came out except once or twice on my husband (hee hee) -but I just put it back in - no problem!

At your age I would not take the pill! It really is not a great idea for women over 40, contrary to what some doctors will tell you.

You can buy these small squares that dissolve and are a spermicide. I can't remember what they're called but you can buy them in the same section as the condoms. I used them after getting off birth control pills to avoid the hormones. You just insert them and they dissolve. My husband did say they do have a different taste.

I had the essure procedure done in October and just had my x-ray a few weeks ago and everything was blocked yeah! For my 3 months I used the Ortho Evera Patch. You only have to remember it once a week. Good luck with your procedure!!

Why not have your hubby get a V? My hubby did it - the least he could do after I gave birth to 2 (our 2nd child was (9 lbs and a 14" head) It is out patient surgery and no real side effects. Many of our friends have had it done - then you don't have to put all of this "crap" into your body. It only takes him a 15 minute procedure. My hubby did it on a Friday and by Sunday was playing golf. Good Luck

Have you considered an IUD? No surgery involved.

hi T.. i had Essure done 6 months ago. i had the depo shot too. i HATED it. cravings at 4am, bloating. its like being insanely pregnant or something. i actually got the shot 2 days after having my son. and then i bleed for 6 months straight from the "hormones." I told my gyno i would not get the shot again. she told me that birth control isn't 100% affective. and the depo is the best. i am also allegic to laytex. i just put the "bed" on hold. It took about 6 months for the hormones from the depo shot to wear off. but now everything is great. It actually takes like a month after starting, for regular birth control to be affective. I would just go another two month without it. i see that you are newly married so thats a hard one but maybe just look into other ways you can be intimate. sorry i guess i'm not much help. this was just my experience.

I was on the Depo shot as well and ended up having to go off of it due to some uncomfortable intercourse issues that I swear are linked to that shot-although never confirmed by the Doc of course but funny how it disappeared as soon as the shot was out of my system????
Anyways I am currently on the NuvaRing and absolutely love it! You put it in for 3 weeks and the 4th week you take it out to have your period. I have twins so to have to sit and think about taking a pill each and every day at the exact time - yeah right!
I cannot even feel it nor does my hubby when we have intercourse. I have had no issues with it - however I must warn you that I have "heard" of other women complaining that they got a lot of yeast infections, UTI's, etc. I am not already prone to getting these so it has never been an issue and I think with every Birth Control option each woman is different and you just have to see what works best for you. If it's only for three months anyways it's worth the try and it's not like you will have to worry about it on the long-term basis. I love the NuvaRing though-best option for me!
