Sounds like B is right if there is no more pain. If that baby tooth was sitting right on top of the adult, that would explain the tremendous pain he was feeling. My daughter had that happen once. I also recall the first time my daughter lost a molar thinking, "Arrgh! Where's the rest of it? They seem to be more shallow than the other teeth.

Was it a baby molar? Because baby molars look like half a tooth. Check his mouth and see if the 'other half' is his adult molar which pushed out the baby one. If it's an adult tooth then yes dentist asap.

Yes. If this is a baby tooth that's supposed to come out (which it sounds like it is, since it was wiggling), there's no problem as the rest of it will probably come out soon. But if the tooth split because there's a decay problem, there could be other teeth affected. It's the weekend so unless there is a lot of pain, I'd imagine this can wait until Monday. If it's a little uncomfortable, it could be because the tooth is loose, so have him chew on the other side until Monday.

It could be that the part below the tooth that came out is the emerging adult tooth.
If his tooth was broken in half I'd imagine there would be a lot of pain.
See your dentist to make sure everything is alright.

Any tooth pain warrants a call to the dentist. Even if it's gone right now. Any pain means you call. Very simple.

Well, what would you do if it was your tooth and hurting?????

Of course you need to call the dentist. #1 concern. He can get an infection in it and that infection can get into his blood stream and go to his brain and he'll die!

A friend of mine, who's dad is a pastor of a little country church, had a family in that congregation lose a little boy last year to a tooth infection.

He needs medical care.

Can you call the dentist's office to see if there is an after hours phone number to call? Can you call your pediatrician and ask for some antibiotics?

Is there a Children's Hospital in your area? Do they have dentists going to college there to become dentists? At O U Health Science Center in OKC they have a full dental college on the campus. So if there is a dental emergency they often have access to a dentist 24 hours per day. That's why I'm asking. Is there a medical campus nearby? With teaching hospitals? They could get more results.

Your child is suffering and his other teeth may be just as bad as this one inside. He needs an emergency visit to the dentist today or the ER so he can at least get some antibiotics to prevent infection.

I can't believe you asked this question. Why would you consider NOT calling the dentist? He lost 1/2 a tooth and the rest of the tooth needs to be repaired to prevent infections or further complicate things in his mouth and his overall health.

You do know that any infection in the mouth area can lead to major issues in the bloodstream and possibly infect the brain. People who ignore things like this DIE.

Would you call the dentist if you lost 1/2 a tooth? Pain or no pain right now means nothing... he needs to be seen by the dentist and have it repaired.

i'm racking my brain trying to come with any scenario in which my kid broke off a tooth, leaving the innards exposed and the roots embedded, and i might consider for a second NOT calling the dentist.

If he is not in pain I would call on Monday and ask the dentist what they want you to do.
