Can Anyone Recomend a Good Behavior Book for My 6Yr Old?

I am looking for a book to help with my 6yr old DD's behavior (preferably not religious). She is having lots of trouble listening and has been throwing some pretty good tantrums. In the past year and a half we have had a baby, moved, and she has started kindergarten, so it has been a lot of changes for her.
Thanks, B.

I found a Disney Princess book (through Scholastic, I think) called 'Polite as a Princess'... it's pretty good. I bought it when my girls were 2 and 3, so I don't know if it would still be age appropriate for a 6 year old, but it may be a good start!

You might also want to mention this to her guidance counselor at school. My 6 year old, when her baby brother first came home (she's the middle child), had a really hard time adjusting. I called her guidance counselor and they met a few times and it really, REALLY HELPED!!

I really like the love and logic books. Get the one that right for a 6 year old. They focus on natural consequences vs. punishment. It really is a loving way to discipline... Also, How to talk so Kids will Listen and Listen so Kids will Talk (something similar) is good. Good luck

The Kazdin Method- Parenting the defiant child, they are based out of Yale- so everything is backed by solid research. Many of the techniques are counterintuitive and both parents need to "buy in" but it is great! All about recognizing and praising good behavior

Not sure if you meant a book to read with her, or for you to read for strategies and techniques, but a book that I recommend to all the parents I work with is "1-2-3 Magic" by Thomas Phelan. It's simple and makes sense. I use it myself.

Free Spirit publishing publishes a lot of books of good behaviors for kids in the 4-8 year old age group.

It is a lot of changes for your daughter and undoubtedly all those changes are contributing to her acting out. We had a load of scary behavior issues with my eldest when the second came along (which also was right after we had moved and she changed schools). They just don't know how to articulate all the disruption they feel. We ended up spending extra time with her (she was only 2.5 at the time) alone which helped and the behavior/tantrum issues went away when she was feeling more secure. I could imagine how it might feel different with a 6yo (which my eldest now is) b/c they should know right and wrong. I think the extra mommy time might help but we also used the 1,2,3 Magic book. I typically abhor books promising magic fixes but this book has a lot of great practical strategies for dealing with behavior issues that actually work.
Good luck!

I just bought a book about good behavior called :How Full is Your Bucket for kids by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer
(Overstock has it at a good price)
My son was able to understand the message pretty well and it is non religious.
