Look for an "extraction" type cleaning.
That is what our carpet guy told us.

just ignore the sales pitch at the end. This is just for information.
We need our carpets cleaned - 3 kids and a dog... time for a cleaning. I've done parts of them before myself, but it's time for a professional job. Does anyone have any recommendations for what to look for in a professional cleaning. I'd like a quality job, but don't want to over pay. Is it worth it to have it "sealed"??? So confused. Thanks for your help.

We've had the traditional and the non water type of cleaning and I HIGHLY recommend non water. We used Zero Res (white carpets) it's been 9 mos and the carpets look GREAT still (not new... but great). They're offering a special in MN... maybe it's a national one?? I have always done the sealing too.
I have had friends and neighbors use cheaper companies, and either the carpets were left really wet, or the cleaner they used ended up attracting more dirt over time.
I think this is a situation where you get what you pay for. I've used Coit for years, and I really just haven't had a single problem. Not the cheapest, but very good. Get them when they're offering 33 or 40% off to help a little with cost.
My sister uses Stanley Steemer and like them, I think they are a little cheaper.
I recommend using

It is a family-owned business that cares about their work. I recommend having it "sealed" especially where you have a dog. it helps to keep the dirt to the top so you can vacuum easily and won't have to have the carpet cleaned so often. The owner, Ed Reynolds, used to be a police officer so all the people on his crews have been background checked (most companies don't do that) and he will come and talk with you himself in the beginning. I'm not saying they are cheap but they are VERY good, they guarantee their work, arrive on time, and are very careful in your home. If you decide to use them, tell Ed R. referred you (they have a referral program where you can get a % off your own cleanining when you refer people) good luck!
