Hello Mom's!
Any advice would be helpful! We just moved and my 7 year old son has always had some behavior issues. But, now it is out of control! He has in past week said He hates his life, wants his old life back. He has now in past week developed this OCD like thing blurting out to my husband and I that were fat or ugly and then saying i am kidding. He tells us his mind tells him to say it and then sometimes cries uncontrollably. He had his friends over yesterday and he had many instances of being bossy or argumentative. He is the only child and we did move from a 900 square foot place to a 2400 square foot house including swim pool and trampoline! You would think he would of been thrilled with the move but it has been a night mare! I developed a flu over the weekend and I feel better today but I feel so depressed and sad for my son. We have United Health Care PPO. Used to have Kaiser and wish we still did. Doesn't seem like too many Therapist accept insurance?? Any recommendations would help or if you may know of therapist that would be helpful!
Thanks KM

I'm not sure if Palo Alto Medical takes your insurance, but if it does, we *love* Dr. Rosenthal (a psychiatrist). It sounds like it would be good to see a psychiatrist first, being that there are ongoing behavior issues that have suddenly gotten worse. A psychiatrist will most likely refer you to a psychologist or a therapist, and so far our experience has been good at Palo Alto Medical (we just started seeing Susan Macenzie). There's a waiting list for all of their therapists, but it doesn't take as long as they originally say. I've also hear great things about the Children's Health Council, but I'm not sure what insurances they take either . . .

K.,

Don't know about the insurance piece, but I have worked with both of the agencies belong and they may be of some help.

Family and Children's Services- Palo Alto http://www.fcservices.org/programs/program_mental-health....

Children's health Council- Palo Alto http://www.chconline.org/

If you search online, there are also some sights that do therapist searches that may let you narrow it by insurance.

Best of Luck
M.

Check out Jewish Family Services in Palo Alto. They take all kinds of insurance and will also do a sliding scale. They are a community agency, and do not serve only Jewish Families and their providers are from all backgrounds. Good Luck.

Your son seems like having anxiety issues. Would he be anxious about the new place, missing old friends, having to make new friends...?
I would check out and call Children Health Council. An in-take person will call you back and you can address your child's issues and insurance issues. They will make recommendations to you before you commit to anything. But make sure you know what you will be charged for, including intake meeting, diagnostic interview... etc. The therapists there are very professional and knowledgeable.
