My daughter chopped her own beautiful blonde hair back in April. I was really devastated, because she did quite the number on it. I took her to a stylist. The ladies there debated over what could be done, since she cut parts so incredibly short. We did have to chop it short, but they were able to layer it in to a little pixie cut that is very cute on her. And she still looked like a little girl. So cute, we debate over continuing to let it grow out or getting it trimmed short again. (I miss the pigtails, so I think we'll let it keep growing!) The stylists told me that children's hair does usually grow faster than an adult's hair, but there is nothing that can be done to speed up the process. My daughter did this at the beginning of April and now at the beginning of June, I think she has grown about 1/2 inch of hair. Take her to the stylists, they will help you "salvage" what you can!

I would take her to a children's hair salon. They see this sort of thing every day, sometimes several times a day. They will be able to clean it up a bit. They cannot necessarily correct it, but they can make it look less like a disaster.

As for her hair growing, it is just going to grow at the rate her hair is supposed to grow. It's kind of a personal thing. But, you can encourage it by making sure that she has a well-balanced and nutritutios diet - but I'm sure you are doing that already! (BTW, that doesn't mean "fat-free." HEALTHY fats help the collagen (in skin, hair, and nails) to grow.)

Welcome to one of the rites of passage of childhood/motherhood!

Yeah... big brothers have a tendency to do that...

A friend of mine (LONG ago) had been commenting... "I really need to get Emily's hair trimmed" .... so he decided to "help" out! He cut a BIG chunk off one side......

She had to take her to a stylist to re-shape it so it looked ok... and this was RIGHT before Easter!

Take her to a stylist.... there is nothing you can do to make it grow "fast" ..... but the stylist can trim it so it doesn't look so bad..... (if there is much left, anyway...)

I would take her a children's hair stylist and see what they can do to "fix it" as best they can. And the hair will grow back when it grows back. Sounds like brother needs to not be allowed near scissors for a while!

My older son did this to my older daughter. You cannot make it grow back faster. What I did and what I would advise is go to a stylist before you try to fix it yourself. They will do a much better job of making it look normal while it grows back out.

Do not try to do it yourself. I am actually fairly talented on normal hair cuts but what you are trying to do in this situation is not a normal hair cut. You are trying to make it look like big brother did not give her a hair cut.

Oh, what she did for Christine was long layers. Other than when I pulled them up in pig tails you couldn't tell her brother got her. She had pig tails at the time, he just cut one off. She was two. When I asked why she let him do it she said he said please.

Welcome to mamapedia!!!

This is a fun first question!! Sorry!!! But OH MY!!! I bet that was fun to walk in on!!! (not!)

I would take her to a salon and get her hair professionally cut.

There is NOTHING you can do to make her hair grow any faster than it does. It will take time and care.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Yes, cut it evenly. I would take her in to a professional though and NOT try to do it myself! They are trained in what they do and will be able to give her a new 'style' to go along with what was cut off!

Not sure how to get it to grow in quickly...some people have fast growing hair and others don't? I say ask the professional when you see her, maybe she will have some tips for you?

~I hope you gave your 6 y/o a good talking to...IMO, he is WAY to OLD to be doing something like that and should absolutely know better!!!

Cut it evenly, hair grows back - not a huge deal. I think the real issue is that scissors were in his hands w/out supervision.
