I am kind of at a loss as of what to get my brother for Christmas. I am hoping someone can point me to a website or store I can check out. He's about 40 with three daughters. He likes unusual things, like puzzle boxes or secret compartment boxes, magnet sculpure thingy, rubik cube sort of things, unusual candles, and things like that. It seems all the neat stores of the past have all been replaced by chain stores and big box stores. I have no idea where to look for stuff like this. I could even use ideas of things that would be similar to the ones I listed so that I'm not just going to amazon and typing generic terms in the search box and getting a million things that are overwhelming. Thanks!

Look up sticky stones. I love them! Basically, really strong magnets that you can do all kinds of cool stuff with. I am almost 30 and love playing with them as do my kids. You can use some of them to push others around, make a train of magnetics with them, etc. We have the small ones and they get used almost daily.

If there are any craft shows or flea markets in your area they are a good place to try. Crafter's do a lot of the stuff that used to show up in those weird little stores in the mall. most of them are gone now but the crafter's are not.

I get a catalog called Bits and Pieces (http://www.bitsandpieces.com/) and they have these types of things. I have gotten presents for my father and my brother-in-law from this site and they have gone over well.

Good Luck

There is a store in downtown Naperville called Marbles: The Brain Store that has a lot of neat stuff. I don't think it's a chain but maybe they have a website or catalog. I know it is a drive from Loves Park. Some of the larger Barnes & Noble stores have nice game areas or you could try Barnes & Noble online. There is a website called Mindware that has a lot of different stuff too. Good Luck!
