J.T.
A spoon rest! Silly but I need one and can't ever remember to pick one up...
I have also been hinting at a Kindle or the B&N reader... he hates my books all over so....
My husband has asked me to provide a Christmas list of things I want but since we already pretty much get what we want through out the year I don't know what to ask for. Even if there is something I want, I can never remember what it was.
So what have y'all asked for?
A spoon rest! Silly but I need one and can't ever remember to pick one up...
I have also been hinting at a Kindle or the B&N reader... he hates my books all over so....
I want a Kindle! I have hinted many times and told him all about it so I THINK he caught on. We will see...
I put a draft email, or an email to myself with my list, so that I can update it with whatever I can think of at the moment. My top two big ticket items right now (usually targeted to the financially better off in-laws) is a double jogging stroller and a cricut machine. And then gift cards.
I've asked my husband for the same thing every year...a box of Godiva chocolates! It's something I never get for myself! I think I love them so much because I only get them once a year and they are SO yummy!!!!!
My DH, without fail, has given me a box every Christmas =-)
Nothing. We don't have enough money to get my kids anything much less my husband and myself. We will figure it out for them, but I think Christmas is all about the kids anyways.
Once the children are asleep I will give my husband his "gift" :)
Kindle or digital/video camera... i like to ask for the things we cant afford during the year.
What i really want is him and i in fleece pjs, with a bottle of wine, in front of the fire....lol!!
This year I'm going mostly practical: new muffin pans, juice pitchers, stuff like that. I'm also a little fascinated with Sharon Osbourne at the moment, so I might ask for her autobiography :)
Generally though, Christmas at our house is for the kids - since we've had them ;)
Another bead for my Pandora bracelet.
New cookie sheets (mine are cheapo lame-o).
A new digital camera (mine is 5 mp. The new ones are 12 mp!)
Amazon.com gift card (to use during the year, since i DONT buy what I want during the year).
New pajama bottoms.
New jeans.
This year the hubby and I are not doing gifts to each other but only stockings. I put together a list with jewelry, scrapping stuff, etc.
IF I were going to ask for stuff (things I have on my Amazon wish list) it would be: shoes, baking pans (for bread, mini loaves of bread, mini muffins), a grill pan, a portable printer for scrapbooking pictures, perfume, scrapbooking kits and embellishments and cds.
I would like a new deep fryer (I love to cook) and cookie sheets (I love to bake). I'm not the norm asking for gold and diamonds. I would love some work clothes. Maybe some new fuzzy socks from Bath and Body works. We too buy stuff during the year. But we are also doing the Dave Ramsey thing and trying to save and get debt free!
I really want a cuisenart mixer
Awesome question. I'll have to think about it and then try to add it.
There are lots of things i need that i would buy myself with extra cash, but nothing he is capable of buying by himself with out screwing up, plus he is a romantic and tries to out do other guys in his office so I hate to say it but the gifts i've gotten in the past have not been hits. maybe a wish list and some tastefull hints would help.
I'm sick of getting luxury items and useless clutter when the money could be used to save someone's life, so for the first year I'm asking either for a surprise gift from the Samaritan's Purse catalog or a World Vision microloan of anyone who asks.
I'm asking for one of those new mops that will vacuum and clean my floor at the same time. It makes my housecleaning alot easer = and me happier:)
When my grandmother past away, we were given a small portion of her estate. With that all the granddaughters bought a piece of jewelry. I bought a pendant. It came with a chain, but it is a cheap chain. I asked my husband for a better chain. What I really want is for him to take care of our daughter for the day and clean the house to experience what I do, but I have to be realistic in my requests. Maybe since you have everything you want, how about you and your husband get a weekend away.
I always ask for my favorite Victoria's secret perfume (Rapture) from my hubby, because it's not something I would go out and buy for myself. My all-time favorite gift, though, is tickets to a Broadway show and a nice dinner out for the 4 of us. It's a real treat, and something we all can enjoy and look forward to after the rush of the holidays is over.
I can't remember what I ate for breakfast, let alone what I would like for Christmas, so I keep a list on the fridge year round and write ideas on it when they come to me. The list is for things I want, but I also have a list for when I come up with gift ideas for the kids and the rest of the family.
Here's a current sampling of what's on my wish list:
Cherry pitter
Large umbrella
Massage gift certificates (this is a permanent item)
North Carolina bug book (I'd like to know what it is before I smash it)
Basically, it's things I would like, but get knocked off the budget by things like dental visits, new shinguards, etc.
This may not help for this year, but it might help going forward.
Good Luck!
I have asked for one person to babysit (my son will be almost 6 months by Christmas), and one person to keep me company while I have a shopping spree at the outlet mall. I was in desperate need of new clothes before I got pregnant; now that 1)my boobs are bigger from breastfeeding and 2)I need more casual clothes than office attire, I basically rotate the same two outfits over and over. And let's not mention the 7-year-old sneakers I wear every day!
So, what I really want is just the opportunity to spend a day getting some clothes that fit me and are not worn out.
well, last year i asked for new set of pots, and specifically asked for all clad.
instead, i got emeril's set. it isn't a good one.
wish he didn't go cheap on me last year so this year i have been asking to not get each other anything. but he refuses because he wants to do well this year.
i really don't need anything, except my pots for which i asked last year. so do i ask for them again? it's a waste of money so probably i won't. if anything, i will ask for the kindle or the nook.
I think this year my boyfriend and I are going to buy a treadmill for both of us, and pajamas for each other. I actually think thats our new household rule for Christmas, the gifts we buy each other are pajamas, and then we get one gift for both of us to share. The baby can get all the cool stuff. =)
No. 1 on my list is the One Trip Tote. Have you seen this thing? It's no ordinary "tote". It's more like a wide open rectangular carryall. Two of my friends have one. Can use it for everything...fill it with whatever they need for the day and make it easy to get to the car, into school, pool, sports, parties... She looked so organized and at ease, while there I was with my arms full of ten things. It collapses and fits into carry on luggage for daily outings on vacations too. The website is cool and shows a bunch of ways to get organized and make a busy woman's day easier. At last:)!!! Probably will get a few for my sisters and teachers. I think they are only about $39. I think it's from Neeblink
I usually don't ask for anything. I don't really want anything.
But the only thing I do ask if my Hubby can get for me, is my Clinique facial products... so I can stock up and its usually something I don't buy for myself nor like shelling money out for.
So I give him a list of the products I want/need, and then he goes and gets it. And that is something I appreciate and need and want.
Every year, I ask him for that.
He has NO idea otherwise... on what to get me. He has NO idea.
But this year, I think we'll be getting gifts just for the kids. We got a lean budget this year.
all the best,
Susan
LOL Lola! This time of year I go out and buy a couple kitchen things (like pots) cause if I get another cheap pot fry pan etc I think I'm gonna SCREAM! Last year I bought two Le Creuset right before Christmas, he said 'Now WHY'D you do that, I was gonna get you a couple pots for Christmas!' And I thought, pssh, not at $250 each you weren't!
Instead I got a $100 gift card for my favorite kitchen store, see what I mean?
It's all good, with it I bought ONE Viking sautee pan!
What I REALLY want is a MP3 player in the car, sigh. It doesn't matter to me that much. I REALLY REALLY love buying presents for other people, especially him.
This is the 1st yr in over 5yrs that my hubby and I are not going all out. We have a 4mo old daughter and are spoiling her with toys, shoes and clothes. We decided that we will exchange 1 present and then one present from the baby!! I got the hubby Blue Man Group tickets and i'm asking for another pair of Uggs!!!
My list for family & Friends:
- Slippers
- Vera Bradley
- Perfume
- Picture Frames & Home Decor
- Barnes & Noble gift card
- Pedicure gift certificate
- Some Wii games
I am asking for a cover for the bed of my new pick up.
My dad, husband and I all "buy" each other "gifts" from World Vision's catalogue. It's an international charity organization. They make the gifts look really neat in their catalogue, so it's sort of fun (like you can buy a goat for a family or help pay for a well for a village). We always try to choose something appropriate for the person that year (like the year my husband was in an accident I "bought" a wheelchair for someone and my dad usually gets me school related donations since I'm a teacher). You get a little card with a picture of the "gift" for Christmas. They're the best, most meaningful gifts we've ever gotten. You can "shop" their catalogue online.
It's hard for us moms to ask for what we want, isn't it? We're givers by nature. But when the people we love want to give us a gift, what can we do, but accept it gracefully. :)
My adult daughter asked what I want. I wont bore you with the "oh, just to spend time with you" part. That's a given. She and I LOVE to shop and love to give gifts. I listen intently all year for things she may show interest in. She's a great shopper, but hasn't learned to listen for clues yet. SO, I start texting her things in November as I think of them. I send ideas from $5 to $75 so she has several ideas and can still have the fun of shopping and hunting for deals and surprise on my face when I open it.
This year so far, I have suggested a gps - i get cranky when i'm lost.
Work out stuff - excercising is my new hobby and I don't have any stuff - tshirts, yoga pants, excercise ball, etc
I also asked for a new phone - there are several free or $50 phones available on our plan.
Every year I ask for kitchen stuff - I Love to Cook. So, a cool new gadget or something from Pampered Chef is really appealing to me.
She has hinted that I would love a massage, so, that may be on her list for me.
For my husband, I haven't been so kind as to give a list - I just told him he had a big act to follow after the ring he bought me last year! lol It was a great deal he got at JC Penny, but I go on and on like it's the Hope Diamond. It makes him feel good.
Tickets to two off-Broadway shows coming to our area.
Teeth whitening
A fury blanket that I can curl up with on the couch
This is not the norm for us. Last year I bought him a case of his favorite beer that you can't find in stores near our house. I had a friend who lives 4 hours away bring it with her when she came home to visit for the holidays. He bought me my favorite perfume! We were both ecstatic with such simple gifts.
a refill for my Chanel #5 bottle! For him to quick chewing his finger nails so that he's not sick and missing work $$ so often.
I don't ask for anything because I like surprises. Knowing takes the magic out of the surprise.
This time of year, I stop buying things myself and instead tell my husband that I want it for Christmas. In the past, those things have been new running shoes and gift cards to my favorite clothing stores because I needed new clothes. This year I need some new food containers so I picked out a bunch of tupperware that my mom is giving me. I have recently started laser hair removal so I am asking for gift certificates from everyone else to the place where I get it done.
My husband and I don't exchange gifts. That works better for us, but we are going to buy ourselves a new dishwasher this weekend, and chalk it up as a Christmas present for ourselves.
My Mom buys us stuff, so I give her my list. I always ask for jewelry and kitchen stuff... and new socks.
:)
you could ask for bath beads, oils, etc. and one night a week for a year that you get an hour "ALONE" in a locked bath room in the tube, candles music and the works. hope this gives you a little something to think about. this is a gift more about him giving of himself then spending money on you. i think that is a better gift. good luck and godbless. R.
In the past, I have asked for jewelry, kitchen items etc. Now, I buy the things I want, and when he sees something he wants, I say, it would make a nice c gift, and we buy it. To start a fund and have him enter an amount toward a cruise would be lovely. Or for any trip. Also. an amount on a credit card would be nice.
My Christmas wish list:
New slippers- From Hubby
Dexter Season 4-From Hubby
Fuzzy Socks-From Sister
A Barnes and Noble Nook? Maybe? A present for myself? IDK?
Nice towels-From MIL
My MIL always gets me great "housewear" type stuff and pretty much equipped my whole kitchen with the latest and greatest and most $expensive$ pots and pans and knives, stemwear, etc...all the stuff I would never buy for myself, that she has and LOVES!...you name it, I have got it! So, now that my kitchen is done, I thought I would move onto bathroom towels! MIL always buys the best of the best and our bathroom towels are the cheap kind...I'd love to have the nice fluffy big ones but would never spend that kind of $ on them, so YES towels are on my wish list-Hubby thinks this is hilarious-BTW!
In-laws always give everyone of us (all kids included) a HUGE giftcard to Barnes and Noble in our stockings...and I have played with hubby's Kindle and think I would enjoy a Nook!
I dont usually put a lot of stuff on my list, this year there is almost double then normal...I don't really NEED anything...and seeing how MIL always includes in a HUGE giftcard to my favorite store (Target, of course) so that I can pick something out that I WANT... I am always set, happy and thankful!
I also keep a running list throughout the year and as I think of things for my family, I add it so I have several ideas when bdays and holidays come.
Some things on my list this year--
Wine bottle chiller
Polycarbonate wine glasses
SoWine Home Wine Bar Chiller and Preservation System
Oil lanterns for back patio (similar to what we have to match)
Picnic blanket
Camera battery
BOSU ball (1/2 exercise ball—fitness equipment)
Jump rope
Cupcake holder / carrier, 2 lvl—24 cupcakes
Parenting Books
Sheets
We have decided that since we also get what we need during the year.....we're not getting gifts for each other this year, we're doing "angels" from several different Angel Trees in town for people/children who need far more than we do!
My list, not to my husband, we don't do gifts, just for our daughter... but to the extended family is
leggings
shirts
new black ballet flats
a writing for my bedroom wall (uppercaseliving.com)
portia de grossi's new book....
That being said, I really buy us everything we want through the year (luck for us this day in age), I would rather everyone focus on our daughter :-)
Xmas is all about my boys and believe me as most of you might know, is as they get older their list for x-mas get more and more expensive!!! And this year is no exception! Boy oh boy is this year is expensive!! My son's are 11 and 8. The 8 year old was nice to Santa this year but the 11 year old must of thought Santa got this amazing raise!! lol They both want a IPOD Nano. Which would of been ok cause I was putting everything on lay a way but guess what, Kmart is the only place that does that anymore but can you believe they don't carry Ipod's, I was in shock!!!! So anyway. About my husband and I's gifts, we will do it after xmas, we are going out of state for xmas so he wants a 42' flat screen and I want one of those Shark floor cleaners! They are expensive as well. Good Luck everyone and Happy Holidays EARLY!!! LOL
Is he asking for things you want that he wants to buy, or things that his family (or others) will buy? If the latter, I would suggest that you ask for donations for your favorite charity/charities, since you can't really think of something you want. Specifically, people can buy gifts for children who need them, via "Adopt an Angel" or other similar programs, or donate money to organizations that help single mothers or new moms -- there's plenty of need to go around!
If he's wanting to know because he's going to buying things... that's a bit tougher, because he may take it wrong if you decline gifts for yourself, and he wants to show you his love by lavishing you with gifts. If that's the case, you may want to have that discussion sometime next year in the spring or summer, about not wanting/needing Christmas gifts, because he shows his love in so many other ways.
My husband and I rarely exchange gifts, since, like you, we tend to get what we want throughout the year, and I can't think of what I want nor what to get him. We mostly just do gifts for our children. We don't exchange gifts among adults in our extended families, so I don't even think about that.
An elliptical machine so I can cancel the gym membership, since I never get to go for fear of the kids getting sick
Double jogging stroller
A Kitchen Aid stand mixer
New set of knives
Any of these would make me so happy and relieved.
Or, to just take me to a Broadway in Chicago show
at my house everyone likes to weite down everything they want to buy. i got tired of seeing the list of want wants and more wants. So anytime I think of something that I would like to have be I don't real need.. i still write it down.. So far I have wrote, Apple Ipad, Moped, Fossil watch, wick set for porch, and rocking chairs, get my truck painted where the paint is pilling. (i will never buy a Nissan ever again). Hope this is helpful.
One thing I started doing was writing down things as I thought of them throughout the year or as I saw that I needed them...ie black belt, brown boots, etc That way I have a small clue of what to ask for when the time comes. This year I know I want a cookbook, a DVD, gift card to some favorite stores that I would never spend the money on myself. Do you want any CD's? Movies? Books? kitchen items? scarves, belts, boots, etc Anything that I wouldn't normally spend money on like a nice pair of UGGs or a CHI flatiron, I would ask for. This year I want one of those old fashioned looking record players b/c now that they have come back out, I want to hear my old albums from the 80's. Ask for a massage gift card or mani/pedi gift card, anything for the house you were wanting to work on. Be more practical and ask for some renovation or repair...I am asking for a new deep sink and faucet too.
I would take a day and just go roam around your favorite stores and make a list. I bet once you get started it will be easy!
Funny since I became a mom, I haven't wanted much. Especially clothes since I hate my body after birth. The only thing I told my family I'd love is a house cleaner for one full day. We moved into a BRAND new home in January that is huge, and cleaning it while watching our lil guy can be tough ;-)
