My son is always anxious. He's on meds that control the majority of it but I know there are weighted jackets/vests for smaller children to help them feel secure but as the child grows, what do they use? The weighted jacket and vest won't work for him now. I know there are athletic compression shirts but don't think that would be the answer. Does anyone have any experience with a product that might help?
Coming in late: Amazon has "sensory toys"..little things you can fidget with, rulers which are made out of a plasticky material a child can chew in class, contrapations a child can manipulate to release stress. On a simpler level, just basic stress balls or a long plastic straw that he can bend. Even more basic: A bean bag chair..something oversized to hug.
If he responded to weighted vests and stuff in the past you can always sew things inside of his clothing that will help.
If he responds to compression then get him some Under Armor tops that are just under his size, where they fit snugly. See if that's enough. Give him something to put in his pocket, that he can touch to feel secure. Like a prayer stone, a photo of his family, a small book, an empty pill bottle, etc...something tangible he can touch and instantly feel better.
I had a prescription for an anxiety med. Over the course of a year I took 2 pills. I kept the bottle in my pocket. Because I had instant access to it I felt stronger. So even though I didn't use them I had them and felt safer because I could take one at any time.
My doc said that bottle was like my very own version of a Lucky Rabbit's Foot.
I don't know about compression shirts. I have read that you can make a weighted, jacket by sewing in pouches in which you fill with grains, such as rice.
