when my now 12 year old son was an infant he has cradle cap really bad and his pediatrician told me to put baby oil in his hair and let it sit for 30 minutes and then comb it out with a fine tooth comb. BELIEVE IT OR NOT IT REALLY WORKED.
My 9 month old has cradle cap and a lot of hair. I have tried to put vaseline in her hair and brush it out but that seems to not be able to get rid of it and then her hair is all greasy. Someone told me to use Selsun Blue on her but I have never heard that for a baby. Has anyone heard of this before and if not, any suggestions???
Thanks to everyone who responded to my request and I want everyone to know that our pediatrician also recommended Selsun Blue or Head and Shoulders. We decided to use baby oil first and low and behold it managed to get it out. Again I want to thank everyone for their suggestions. Thanks

The ladies at the baby shower today stated to use Head and Shoulders, just a tiny bit every other bath.
It took her 3 or 4 times and the cradle cap was gone.
Hi, my son is 4 months and had cradle cap just this week I used baby oil and in 2 days was gone.. so maybe try that
you might want to try some baby oil
With all 4 of my children, I used baby oil. I would put it on there head and then use a fine tooth comb and then combed it one way then the other way and it should losen it up !
Try using baby oil. Just massage it briskly over her scalp to loosen the scales, rinse, then follow up with baby shampoo. Do this regularly and you should see results. Worked for me!
My oldest was born with enough hair to put in a barret and never lost any of it and she ended up with cradle cap and my mom used baby oil on her head and set and brushed it out with baby brush. It took a few times to get it all and I just used baby magic body and hair wash to get it out. I had to wash her hair a couples times but I'm sure it has to come out easier than vaseline. Never heard of the selsum blue thing but as long as you didn't get it in the baby's eyes I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.
I had read somewhere that mineral oil was good for cradle cap. I've recently used it on my 5 1/2 month old son and it worked very well. The scales loosen with a couple applications and just start loosening on their own. Turns out it's also a good styling product!
When my granddaughter started to come down with it, I started putting baby-oil in her hair every night after her bath. Make sure the hair is washed everynight. What it is it's dry skin.

There is a shampoo at the pharmacy that can now be purchased over the counter. I cannot remember the name of it, but it is in a bright green bottle, and the shampoo is bright green. It used to be prescription and was popular in nursing homes for people with cradle cap. It has a pleasant smell but is a strong smell. It is gentler than Selsun Blue. Pharmacist should be able to point you in the right direction.
I used it on my daughter.
OR make a paste of baking soda and gently massaging that on the scalp. Baking soda is gentle.
The main thing about cradle cap is it takes a lot of combing out until it is gone.
Hope this helps.
When my son had cradle cap I rubbed his head with Johnson's baby oil, let it sit for 10 minutes or so and washed it out with Johnsons head to toe body wash. He also had alot of hair. It seemed to help and didn't leave his hair greasy. I hope this helps.
My pediatrician (who I LOVE and trust) recommended Selsun Blue if I felt like I needed to get the cradle cap off. If other options aren't working, I'd go for it.
good luck!

I had this problem with my son and the dotor told me to use baby oil on his head, making sure to rub it in good, about 10-15 minutes before bath. Then just wash it out. It did wonders and may take a few washes before you see good results. Eventually your baby will outgrow cradle cap, so just hang in there. Hope this tip helps.
We went through the same thing- don't put vaseline or Selsun Blue on the baby for cradle cap. There is a product out there you can get at most any drug store that is specifically for cradle cap and it has two stages to it. I think it is made by Gerber, but ask the pharmacist. It's been 4 years since I've used it, but it worked the first time we tried and I never had to do it again. It wasn't harmful to her either!
Have you tried baby oil warm up a little, I use that on my son he had cradle cap too. I won't try selsun blue on a baby unless the doctor said so I think that would be to strong for a baby,
you can also try applying the baby shampoo about 1/2 hour before actually washing the hair, giving it a chance to soak into the skin a bit -- that along with gently combing against the grain worked for my son...
My daughter had it for just a short while. When i shampooed her hair i brush through her hair with her baby brush and it took care of it.
I was told by my Dr that sometimes the treatment is worse than the problem. I left my daughters'alone and it went away. The scalp gets irritated if we pick at it and put things on it that don't belong there. It made sense to me.
All three of mine had a lot of hair and the cradle cap to go with it. I tried mineral oil and massaging the scalp with a soft toothbrush...it helped with the cradle cap, but the hair was greasy and difficult to wash out. My doc suggested selsun blue or even Neutrogena tgel or tsal, but only once or twice a week. The tricky part is not getting it in their eyes because it stings. Usually what I did was use regular baby shampoo and massaged it in with the toothbrush. It eventually went away.
My daughter had cradle cap really bad. If you get a very soft brush (we got one from the hospital when she came home), use that to gently scrub when you bath her. I never used vasaline, but I did use lotion. But scrubbing the excess out of her hair will help a lot. I would ask a dr. about adult dandruff shampoos firt.
Good luck!
At my daughter's 9 mo check-up (2 weeks ago), the dr checked it out and said that it is just old craddle cap that is "stuck on". She advised me to simply wet my finger and scrape it off. I'd tried Selsun Salon and wasn't noticing much difference. This is working...slowly, she wiggles. I do notice a little bit of hair coming out, but nothing major.
When I picked at my other daughter's when she was 3 months, her hair came out in patches.
Good luck!
Johnson's baby oil does the trick. Dip a soft bristle tooth brush into the oil and massage into scalp gently to saturate all the cradle cap. Use a small tooth comb and gently comb hair in all directions to loosen scabs from scalp (keep a cup of warm water and paper towel near, you won't believe how much yuck you will get in the comb). Just don't force them off, because they are attached. Both of my children had horrible cradle cap and tons of hair. About 3-5 separate sessions of this will rid it. Hair will need to be washed about 3 separate times after a session to appear dry and not greasy...so just do this over a weekend when your little one doesn't need to go anywhere. This really works, I've tried all the products intended for cradle cap, but this is the one that did the trick! It was recommended by my pediatrician. Good luck and be gentle!
Hi B.! I am a new Mom as of December, so i am definately No expert. My Pediatrician told me to use EVOO. Good old extra virgian olive oil. Rub it in real good, let it sit for a few minutes, and wash it out. It does leave it a bit oily, but not nearly as bad as vaseline.
Good luck, hope this helps!
Hi B.,
My son had Cradle Cap for a little while and I picked up the cradle cap shampoo for babies from the drug store. It's in the baby aisle and it really helped a-lot.
If it doesn't, ask your peds. what they suggest.
Good luck!
I hope this helps
T.
B., I've always used baby oil on the scalp and then after the cradle cap softens, take a fine tooth baby comb and begin to gently comb across the scalp and it will come out. Use just a little bit at a time.
A couple of shampoos and the baby oil is gone. I definitely wouldn't use Selsun Blue. We don't use anything toxic on our little one (or in our home for that matter).
I also recently saw an ad for cradle cap treatment - I think it may be from Johnson & Johnson but I haven't actually seen the product to see if it is all natural.
Good luck.
C.
try using a little bit of baby oil it moistens it up and then you can comb it off most of the time.
It could mean a deficiency of EFA's --if you are breastfeeding add it to your diet and if not make sure you only use formula that has EFA's added.
Our child's doctor recommended T-Gel. Place a little on the spot and massage it in with a baby brush.....make sure not to get in eyes. It works wonders!!!! I used it for both of our children. don't use it everyday, everyother should be fine or only when needed. we also used it when our children where much younger than daughter.
Selsun Blue sounds like a bad idea... babies move too much and it may not stay exactly where you put it. I used baby oil. I let it sit on his head for about 5 min and then used a small soft comb. I did this a few times a week and it was gone rather quickly. Both my boys came into this world with a ton of hair. The baby oil can make it a little greasy but baby shampoo helps too. There are also Cradle Cap Kits sold in most stores in the baby area. I got mine at Meijer. Good luck :)
Use a little bit of baby oil and just keep combing. It will look very nasty but, it will work. Theirs no risk or harm with it, either..
Hi B.! I have not heard of Selsun Blue, but I can't imagine it would be ok for such a tiny one.....too many chemicals. I used to babysit a little one with lots of dark hair and mass craddle cap. I used the olive oil they gave me in the hospital, and brushed it gently everyday I had her. I would wash it before mom came (she knew what I was doing....but I didn't want to give her daughter back to her all greasy:), and in one weeks time it was gone. Olive oil is natural.....so worth the try! Use the baby fine toothed combs you get either from the hospital or at a BabiesRUs, Baby Depot....etc.
Hope this helps.....it can be very frustrating....just hang in there!
Good Luck ~ H. J.
Try vinager and water, it stinks but it works
Cradle cap is a form of rash from a food allergy, most likely an allergy to milk. Nothing will help until the offending food is removed from her diet, and then it will take several weeks to a month to see any difference.
My daughter had cradle cap and a lot of hair too. I used some baby oil and just massaged it off. It did not come off though all at once. It did take a while. I just made sure that I scrubed her head really well every time I bathed her and eventually it came off. Besides, if like my daughter, she has a lot of hair, it really did not show up anyway.
Good luck
My daughter had cradle cap and we used baby oil (NOT BABY LOTION). We let it set on her head for about 15 to 20 min. and then used her baby brush to brush her hair and the dry skin just came off without redness or irritation. Good Luck!
A little about me: I have a 19month old daughter and my husband and I work full-time.
Hi B.,
Our pediatrician suggested mineral oil and a good scrubbing. Not too hard, but enough to help exfoliate. Do that first and then follow with shampoo and use a little plastic scrub brush with soft bristles. If you do this on a regular basis, it will go away. You just have to be patient.

Hello, I have the same problem except that both of my sons have eczema. My doc said to use the coal tar shampoo (like neutrogena) and I have also started using conditioner(the thicker, the better). The conditioner really breaks it up. When they're in the tub, put the shampoo in their hair and let it set for a few minutes. I run a comb through it and go different directions. Then do the same thing with the conditioner. I have found this to be the easiest way to deal with it. The doc and beautician also said I could use olive oil but like your son, my boys have a lot of hair and I don't want them looking greasy. I have a 9 yr old and a 17 month old so I've been dealing with it for quite some time. Good luck to ya! Let me know if you try this and if any of it works for you. Shannon
My now 7 month son had it when he was younger. There is special shampoo that you can purchase to help with it. I used it, and, along with a little bit of baby oil ~ whola, it was all gone.
Good Luck!
My daughter's doctor suggested to use a dandruff shampoo to help with cradle cap. Also go to Wal-Mart they have stuff I believe to help with cradle cap as well. I hope this information helps.
you can use selsun blue or selsun salon on your baby. you just have to be really careful not to get it in her eyes. i used selsun salon on my youngest and it worked great. after 3 or 4 washes the cradle cap was gone and it did not come back. also, you can try baby oil, but i find that leaves the hair kind of slick and oily looking. my youngest boy's doctor actually recommended using either selsun blue or selsun salon for him because nothing else was working. give it a shot.
I used baby oil with my son. Their scalp will soak it up pretty quickly b/c it's so dry. His hair may still look a little oily but I don't think it will be as slimy as Vaseline.
My daugther had the same problem. I tried everything and the only thing that helped was a cream from Arbonne Skin Care called rejuvenating cream. I would wash her hair and then rub a small amount on her scalp and it went away. Hope this helps!
My 8 month old daughter has the same problem, and we just started using Gentle Naturals Cradle Cap Care. It's in a light green bottle and there is a picture of Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore on the front...you'll find it in the baby section at Walmart. It's fairly inexpensive, it smells good, and it doesn't make her hair very greasy. I have used it for a week religiously as part of her bath time routine, and her cradle cap is completely gone.
Iam a hairstylist in westerville. I have learned your scalp is an extention of your face/skin. Treat it as you would if her face were dry. Put a little conditioner on it when you bath her. That moisture should help the dry area. Wet her hair and condition it first, let that sit on her hair and wash her body then rinse hair. Hope it helps.
My daughter had it pretty bad. Head and Shoulders Shampoo worked for us. Just make sure it doesn't get in her eyes. The baby oil/vaseline just adds to the oil in the head that is causing it. I was told it wasn' b/c it's dry. Ours took about 2-3 weeks to go away.
Hi B.. I have a 19 month daughter and she too had cradle cap and lots of hair. The doctor told me to wash her hair everyday with baby shampoo. I did that and I also used a special comb for cradle cap on her when she was half asleep. It went away after a month or two. I hope this helps!!!!

Vaseline is much too thick. We've had a lot of experience with this issue. Try using mineral oil or baby oil on baby's scalp. Rub it it nicely, then use a stiff baby brush (like the one they send home with you from the hospital), and brush the hair out, focusing on those little crusty patches. The oil will soften those crusty patches, making it easier for them to be brushed out. Wash baby's hair with regular baby shampoo. I would never try anything other than baby shampoo. You just don't know what chemicals are in the others. If it still won't clear up, it may be a mix of eczema and may need a steroid cream prescribed by your pediatrician. That's what happened with our youngest. Just be persistent though. Try the oil and stiff brush for a few days. Then if no signs of getting better, call the dr. for more advice.
My son had cradle cap that would not go away. We used Selsun Blue and yes, it worked. Our pediatrician also gave us a prescription for a medicated shampoo, which worked very well. It will go away, but it sure is yucky stuff!
As most of the others have said you should use baby oil during the bath and gently massage it into her scalp. Then use your regular shampoo. My daughter didn't have a lot of hair so I didn't have to use a brush, but it did help reduce it and now I only have to use the baby oil like once a week to help. Since your daughter does have lots of hair, I would agree with a brush would be good, but this should work.
well when my kids had it i keeped baby oil in there hair that helped alot and i never combed it out that made it worse
I wouldn't consider using Selsun Blue - read the ingredients. There are lots of artificial ingredients, and the skin absorbs whatever is put on it within 26 seconds. Try Arbonne ABC baby products. They are pure with no artificial colors or fragrances. They contain no mineral oil, are hypoallergenic, are dermatologist tested, and contain no animal byproducts. The baby products contain no nut oils and can be used from birth - even the sun screen. You can go to aphrodite.myarbonne.com to learn more about the company, buying at retail prices, and buying at wholesale prices of 35% - 80% off, via the internet. All of the products for all ages are also beneficial and safe. Hope this helps.

Hello! I remember when my son was a baby,he also had crdle cap really bad. I remember using vitamin E gel. He is 15 yrs. old now. I'm pretty sure it helped. You could try it. I don't think it will make the hair real greasy like vasoline will. Hope you find what will work. Good Luck!
The best thing to do is give your child a bath and immediately after the bath put baby oil on his head. Use a cradle cap brush that is sold at babys r us or other department stores. Your main goal is to brush the babys head while the pores are open from his bath. After you brush his head continue to put baby oil on. Do not use lotion it just causes build up.
My son has always had a lot of hair and still does, the only thing that works now and in the past is a little bit of baby oil. Just put a little in your hand rub on your baby's head and within a couple of days you will see a difference.
a bit of baby oil and a fine tooth comb worked wonders on my 5mo oldalso my cousin is 7 mo old and he doesnot have the greatest parents (never did anything for his cradle cap) i was watching him one day and i took the liberty of working on his head for 2 hours with baby oil and by god i got it lol well good luck
Hello Drandy, I am a mother of three(3). My oldest is 14, middle is 12, and youngest is 3. My Middle child had cradle cap very bad, along with a lot of skin problems and still does. When he was a baby his doctor at Riley Children's Hospital told me to use Selsun Blue on him, I was scared to because he already had enough skin problems.
However, I did and it worked! I didn't have to use it on him for a long period of time, I didn't even use the whole bottle. His cradle cap was gone within a week or so, I just got the none sented kind. Let me know how she does :)

I wouldn't dare use Selsun BLue on a baby. If I recall, it has a chemical reaction (of sorts) that causes ones head to tingle. I would think that it would/could be extremely harmful to an infant/child. I think vaseline is a bit thick, try baby oil instead. My son had a small touch of it when he was an infant and that did the trick. Best of luck!
I had to use Selsun Blue on all 3 of my children. I still have to use it at times with my 5 year old daughter. It works!! Just a few times and then it is gone. My 5 year old just has a very dry scalp.
Try baby oil or head and shoulders....
My doctor told me to put baby oil on at night and yes he said to use Selson Blue in the bath.
Cradle cap is just a fancy word for dandruff. The solutions you buy in the store are simply mineral oil. That isn't going to get rid of the problem.
I used dandruff shampoo, like Head & Shoulders, on my boys. My first son was overdue and he had a white layer of extra skin all over. The dandruff shampoo helped quite well. I would not get the kind that tingles. Just get the regular solution or buy a generic brand. Works the same for baby.
Obviously, it's not a tear-free solution, so you would need to tilt baby's head back and cover baby's eyes.
Wow, you got a lot of advice here but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth. My daughter had lots of hair and I had to deal with cradle cap too. I used Eucerine Gentle Wash when I gave her a bath and then I used a comb and gently brushed her scalp. I'm sure you've found that a brush doesn't work well with lots of hair. I found the comb worked best. Best of luck.
Use any type of dandruff shampoo. Just make sure you dont get it in their eyes. You should also try to wash there hair every day or every other day till it clears up
Hi B., I am a Grandmother of 4 Beautiful lil darlings. And I give my daughter in laws this same advice with wonderful results. Before their bath. put baby oil on their hair and massage it around the cradle cap areas a little. Then wash their hair and soon all will be fine. If it comes back, do this again. BABY OIL has been the trick for cradle cap since my children were babies. And my youngest son is now 28 yrs. old. Good Luck..
Hello B.,
My son also had a sever case of cradle cap. The doctor did recomend using Selsun Blue which seemed to help. Good luck!!!
I used Selson Blue on both my daughters for cradle cap and it worked perfectly. Got rid of it in one use. :) It was recommended by our doctor too.
Selsun Blue worked for our children and it only took a tiny amount and a couple of washes. Stings the eyes, however, so take extra care when using. Our pediatrician recommended it.
A.
Hi B., I used Selsun Blue on both my babies. It worked great. I would hold my baby over the bathroom sink and wash his hair. I would also use a baby brush and lightly scrub his head, then rinse. After 2 times, the cradle cap was gone. Let me know if you have any questions.
~S.
I have used baby oil on my children and grandchild to help get rid on craddle cap. After applying it use a baby comb or brush on her hair to loosen it. It really does help.
B.,
My 8 mo. old also has cradle cap, but she's bald! You can use an anti-dandruff shampoo on your baby, but I've had really good luck using Burt's Bees baby apricot oil. Put the oil on her head and leave it on for as long as possible--I put it on her when I get ready to give her a bath, and don't take it off until the end. When you're ready to wash her hair, use a baby brush (the one from the hospital works really well) and gently use it to exfoliate the scales. Get as much as you can off, and then wash with your regular shampoo to remove the oil.
Hope this helps!

If dandruff shampoo doesn't work, get a treatment from the baby isle at the drug or grocery store or from Babies R Us, ours worked great. If that still doesn't work, talk to the pediatrician, we had to use a steroid ointment when it was extra bad.
do not use the selsin blue it is too strong for the babies skin. Get some Johnson & Johnson creamy babyoil put it on your babies hair(more like her scalp) leave on for about a half an hour. Take one of those soft bristle baby brushes and loosen it up, then wash it with baby shampoo. Do it everytime you wash your daughters hair. Everyone of my children when they were babies had that problem, and all of them had alot of hair. It works. Depending on the amount of hair depends on how long it takes to clear up.
B.,
My grandson (8 months old) also had cradle cap..We used baby oil...massaged into his scalp...and combed the cradle cap right out...yes it did make his hair oily...a little shampoo and the oil was gone...
T.
My daughter and son both had cradle cap. The pediatrician recommended selsun blue for my daughter and it didn't work, despite using it every other day for a few weeks. I used olive oil on my son and it worked the first time. I put the olive oil on his scalp while he was in the tub and massaged it in. Then I used a fine tooth baby comb and my finger nail (gently) to pull the scales off, rinsed and shampooed. This was all I needed to do. It did not leave his hair greasy at all.
My daughter is 3 and still has some cradle cap. You need to get rid of it or the hair will stop growing and when the skin comes off the head the hair will come off in chunks too. We had to get prescription shampoo from the doctor to get rid of it.
You can use Olive Oil or Baby Oil. Never a medicated shampoo
My son had it since he was 4 months old. Our pediatrician told us to use Selsen Blue, yet sparingly. It has worked for the most part. He's now 6 months and it's not so bad anymore and we have stopped using it. It helped when he started to grow more hair. Good luck.
Never heard of the Selsan Blue. Mine didn't have it too bad, but some. I would give them a little scalp massage with my fingers, using more of my nails to help loosen it, plus they enjoyed the massage. Other than that, just wait it out. It's annoying, but not harmful.
We used Head & Shoulders when our daughter was an infant per our Ped's reco. Our daughter had terrible cradle cap (although no hair!) when she was a baby. We used H&S and hydroortisone ointment which cleared it up pretty quickly.
Good luck!
AR
I have never heard of using Selsun Blue. I would be afraid it would be too harsh. My daughter had the same problem. I put baby oil on her scalp for a few minutes before her bath and then used Neutragena. It helped a lot. The shampoo was recommended by her doc.
My son was born with tons of hair. He also developed cradle cap. I bought Gentle Naturals Cradle Cap Care with Winnie the Pooh on the front. It worked great! The only thing is it smells a little funny and takes a few head washings to get the smell out. But it was worth it to get rid of the cradle cap
I have used a product called Cradle Cap Treatment made by Gentle Naturals. It really worked for me. I got it at Target, but also have seen it at other drug stores. Good Luck!
go to babies r us, Gerber has a kit that cost about $10-13 but it's worth it!
Absolutely use the Selsun Blue!! My 3 yr. old daughter was diagnosed with cancer when she was 4 mo. old. When she started to get her hair back, we noticed the cradle cap was really bad. Her oncologist suggested it and after trying everything else, I gave it a shot. It worked within a very short amount of time. I would let it sit in her hair while she played for a while and then rinse it. The vasaline and the cradle cap shampoos seemed only to make her greasy and really didnt work. Good luck
When my oldest son was an infant, I took him to the doctor for cradle cap and a yeast infection rash around the diaper area. The doctor gave me a special prescription shampoo for his cradle cap, and a cream for his yeast infection. He then proceded to tell me that if the shampoo didn't seem to work after a couple of days, try using a bit of the yeast infection cream on the cradle cap area... because he said it was an "old wives tale" that cradle cap was caused by yeast. The shampoo did not work at all... after a few days I tried the cream, and the yeast infection cream cleared it up in no time! If you have any cream around the house with clotrimazole in it (basic yeast infection medicine) I would try that. I bet ya it'll work! :)
Don't use vaseline.Use baby oil and get a comb and use your fingers as well.this will get rid of the cradle cap.Use this and lotion to prevent cradle cap.
friend of mine just had the same issue recently. dr said just wash baby's hair with johnsons baby shampoo. no baby oil. call ur ped and as the dr or nurse for advice
I used Selsun Blue on my son for cradle cap at the recommendation of my doctor. Just use a small amount and be sure to rinse well and keep it out of her eyes.
My 5 yr old also had it when he was a baby, the selsun blue worked. I tried the shampoo for cradle cap but it did not work for him. I still wash his hair with it about once a week.
I always washed my babies' hair with a soft bristled brush (similar to a fingernail brush) and washed with baby shampoo. Another item that I absolutely loved was Phisoderm for babies. It is similar to the regular Phisoderm products for adults. It was a baby wash as well as a shampoo. Not sure if they still make it. My youngest is 6, so I've been out of the baby phase for a few years. Good luck!
I used Selsun Blue on my little one. It took only washing her hair with it at two baths before it cleared up. Use a little bit and try to apply it to the area where the cradle cap is and work it in there. Mostly you want to minimize the amount of the shampoo and limit the area of use so you don't get any in her eyes. A few washings and it should clear up.
I couldn't use baby oil, my little one is allergic to it for some reason.
Good luck.
i've been a cosmetologist for years so i know this works. Use clear aloe gel. Spred on liberally and comb out the crust after a short time.
Hi, B.! I am Bel. I have not done this in a while, but when my twins were babies I washed their hair with regular shampoo and after the rinse I poured baby oil in their hair and massage. I then rinsed! Just a suggestion. Did you try asking the Dr.? Good Luck!
I used Olive Oil on my couple of week old - when she had it then combed it out.
my husband thought i was NUTS but it worked! :)
Try Baby Oil Lotion...if you can't find it then just use Baby Oil. After your baby gets a bath, towel dry her hair, then rub (massage) the baby oil lotion in her hair...then get a comb and comb her hair with the lotion in it. After a few time you should notice a change. I like the Baby Oil Lotion better than just the Baby Oil...it doesn't seem to be as oily, and it doesn't seem to leave their hair as greasy looking. It has worked on all 4 of my kids. Good Luck.
When my son had cradle cap, I used a lice comb and it pulled all of it out. He did not have alot of hair though.
I used the Selsun Blue on my daughter for Cradle Cap - once a week and it really did the trick.
Ive worked in the healthcare profession ever since i was 16...Im going for my RN...So i Seen just about everything...What ive alwasy been taught was use a little of Baby Oil but not to much....If you use to much it will cause them to have oily hair in the long run...So just use a little...You will see in a few days the flayness will start to loosen up...Also try using baby shampoo...It helps to...Worth a try...Good Luck...I too am a stay at home mom now and i have a 12yr old and 9 yr old...Been there done that...LOL
Everyone is right with BABY OIL....just be sure to leave it on a good 10 to 15 minutes (in the tub) before combing (fine tooth comb) through it to get it out...then wash out whats left. It could take a couple of treatments of the oil and oil build up...then it will be gone...no worries!
About a half hour before bath time I put a bunch of baby oil in their hair and massage it into the scalp. Then I just used the foaming baby shampoo to get it out and several rinses. This is what worked for both of my boys!
use baby oil and a baby comb
First of all congrats on your new daughter. I think that i have heard that you can actually use diaper rash cream for cradle cap. You could just apply a small amount on a q-tip or cotton ball, and that should help. You also will want to make sure that you dont have a hat on her head whenever you dont have to, that way the air can get to it.
I hope that this helps, and dont forget to give them lots of hugs each and every day!!!!

My youngest is now 7 years old, but has had severe excema since she was 3 months. Even with such sensitive skin (she uses special soaps, shampoos, hand lotions, and even laundry detergent to wash her clothes), our doctor recommended Head & Shoulders for her cradle cap. It worked like a charm! I've learned over the years that there are just as many chemicals in those "baby" items as there are in the "grown up" ones. I wouldn't use it on her every single day for the rest of her life, but 3-4 days in a row to get rid of the cradle cap, then back to your "normal" shampoo should work wonders. Good luck!
I had the same problem with my son. Go get Paul Mitchell "Baby Don't Cry" shampoo. It is unbelievable! We use so little on their it will last you a long time. I too tried everything and this is the only thing that works!
When my daughter had cradle cap my Pediatrician told me to use Redken's dandruff shampoo. At the time it was called "Solve". He said to use it everyday until it calmed down and then once or twice a week. I do feel like it really worked. I would wash and dry her hair and then just lighty comb out any of the dead skin. Obviously you have to be careful not to get the shampoo in her eyes since it is not tear free. Hope that helps!
The dr told me to use baby oil. Massage it into the cradle cap and then gently brush it out. Be care to only use as much oil as you need. It's not too messy if your careful how much you use. Once or twice and it's gone. Or at least for my oldest. I would not use Selsun Blue on an infant. I broke out severly when it was used on my hair as a preteen and could not stand to touch my head with anything for weeks. It burned my scalp.
Use baby Oil. It works right away! Wet her hair then massage baby oil in it, then wash it with baby shampoo. No greasy hair, no cradle cap! I cary great products for this very problem. If you are interested go to hwilson.myarbonne.com and look under the ABC baby products - they are all Pure, Safe, and Beneficial. Or you can run to the store and pick up Johnson's or something like that. ____@____.com if you have any questions.
Hope it works great for you too!
A little about me: I am a stay-at-home mother of three beautiful angels! Daughter 4, Son 2, son 11 months.
I went through the same thing with all 3 of my kids, and though I never tried Selsun Blue, I did find that baby oil works perfectly. I would massage it into the scalp with cotton balls, and then comb it out. The hair does get a little greasy so I would always do it right before a bath, and the oil washes out easily with shampoo. Hope this helps!
For cradle cap I highly recommend the baby line from Arbonne. The thing I love about it is it's more natural then other things out there and you still get amazing results. Also I see a lot of women recommend baby oil. The first ingredient in it is mineral oil. Read about it and see if that's really what you want to put on your baby. Mineral oil blocks absorption from vitamins your baby needs. Something to think about... good luck.
