Cure for Morning Sickness and Flying???

I am about 7 weeks pregnant with my second child. I am going on vacation in about a week, and the flight is about 4 hours. With my last pregnancy, I didn't have ANY morning sickness at all. This one is a little different. I feel a little sick to my stomach every once in a while....but I haven't thrown up (yet). Now, I'm not afraid to fly, but I do get anxious while driving to the airport and waiting to leave. My new nervous issue is getting sick on the plane. I HATE to throw up normally (not that anyone likes it), but even more so around other people. I just can't stand the idea of it. To make matters worse, we are traveling with friends. Any suggestions about how to eliminate or "cure" morning sickness and nervous belly on a plane??? ALSO, in my last pregnancy, the only time I threw up was after I flew.....and I was in my second trimester. I think it was a mixture of heat, a long day, flying, and waking up super early.....all things that I will experience again this time that will (of course) be in the back of my mind. Anyway, looking for any help out there for a simple and quick cure.

What can I do next?

I am 7 wks pregnant and had morning sickness in my last pregnancy (and I have it in this one too) and here is my suggestion. Try a 1/2 tab of Unisom (25mg tab, I believe). It is a mild antihistamine (but marketed as a sleep aid), and a variant of it (along with vit B6) has been used for many, many years in Canada without any ill effects in women with morning sickness. It will make you a little sleepy, but mostly it will dull the effect of nausea. For more info, try to google Motherrisk.

Eat candied ginger or take ginger tablets that you can get at a health food store.

Honestly I do not have the flying experience issue cause I never fly in my 1st trimester however you may want to try ginger beforehand or try also there are belly pops drops that are great to suck on throughout the flight and you can pick them up at a motherhood store I'm sure. They just sooth your stomach and the citrus really does make a difference. I liked the saltine idea as well that someone posted. I'll bet that helps as well. Good luck and feel good.

Hi,

Not a "cure" but if you tell them your pg/sick at check-in they will likely seat you on an isle and next to a bathroom...it made me much less stressed and I didn't get sick the whole 4 hour ride - and I had terrible morning sickness at the time....good luck!

I have used Sea Bands with great success. You can get them at most drugstores. You wear them on your wrist like a bracelet, and a small button applies pressure to the inside of your wrist. I'm not sure how it works, but it really has helped me.

I've really never flown but from my morning sickness experience I would try eating well before and after and limiting onflight consumption to lots of water and saltines and tangerines, or your favorite high Vitamin C fruit, citrus being the best. Lemon water, possibly! It was the best when I had it soooo bad I could barely eat. Mild Vit. B supplement before could help...

This might sound crazy, but I ate sour skittles and drank lemonade and that helped ALOT!!! I too flew and this helped me out a lot!

Yep! Sea bands did the trick for me. You can buy them in all of the airports but the local pharmacies also carry them. Now I won't travel without them (they are re-usable).

Good luck.

I had the most insane morning sickness and tried everything. I ended up in the ER when I was about 6 weeks because I had lost about 10 pounds in one day I was so dehydrated. They sent me home with a script for Zofran.
It is a wonder drug :)
I did not take it often, but when I needed it it was great.
It is a tiny pill that melts under your tongue so you don't even have to choke down a pill. I was totally paranoid about taking any drugs, but everything I could get my hands on said it was safe during pregnancy.
Also you can try Sea Bands. They are band syou wear on your wrists and use accupressure points to relieve nausea. They did not work for me, but TONS of people recommended them to me and swore by them.
Good luck, I hate puking too and the thought of being sick on a plane stinks!

Ah yes, I am right with you. With my first child, I was really sick for about 6 months. For flying, definitely get the Sea Bands- they are a life saver, and are only about $10 at Walgreens I think. Bring along some Sprite too. I got a prescription from my Dr. for something, I can't remember the name, but it was a very low dose antinausea drug. I did take it once and it helped a lot (part of our trip included 2 ferry rides- BAD planning!!). I am not big on taking any meds, especially when pregnant, but maybe just having it with you would help your nerves. Also, remember that this is a different trip- try not to let your last experience influence this one! :) Good luck! I am sure something will work for you, and you will have a great trip!
