Moms ~
I was wondering if anyone has ever used DirectBuy. You always see them advertised on the TV about getting furniture for such a deal. What is your experience with them? We are needing to purchase some new living room furniture. Thanks Moms!

My sister is a member. She and her husband toured the wharehouse and then they were basically bullied into joining. They were told that if they didn't join that day they would be put on a list and never allowed to join. It is really expensive to join like a couple thousand. So far they haven't bought anything from them that I know of. When my husband and I bought our house she priced appliances for us but we ended up getting them at Best Buy which was cheaper and has the replacement plan and free delivery. Through Direct Buy you have to pick up your purchases yourself. It just didn't seem worth it. Maybe if you were doing major remodeling or building a new house and planned on spending a lot of money but you can always shop around for sales if you are just buying a few pieces of furniture.

We joined and never actually bought anything from them. I tried to buy something once (or twice), but it never came in and it was a huge hassle. Definitely not worth it. They definitely pressure you into joining. I doubt many people actually ever buy anything from them- it's a rip-off.

Hi S.,

I own a furniture business in the Vineyard's Antique mall in Colleyville and my regular prices are much less what they proclaim to be wholesale.
They are NOT wholesale nor direct at all. Everytime I see their commercial I laugh or get angry that they lie to the people about being cheap as wholesale. So beware.

It is VERY VERY high pressure when you visit the facility. Imagine the most intense car sales person and multiply by 100. I will never join because I hate that feeling of being bullied into something. The ONLY time I"ve heard of it being a worthwhile investment is if you are building a new home. Also, check the details of membership. I think you have to commit to "X" number of years at $2000 per year or something like that. You also have to pick up your furniture yourself, no delivery. And most everything is only shown in catalogs, not like in a showroom.

I used them for a few things. Furniture wise we purchased a china curio. It is very nice and could be found in stores for much higher price. It however took us a while to receive it. Much longer than was promised. Other than length of time it took to get the item, we were very pleased with the quality.

I am a direct buy member. Yes it was expensive to join, but the initial fee is good for 3 yrs. After the 3 yrs (and our 3rd year is up in Feb) I think its 50-100 yr. We have bought several things and I think over a course of a lifetime it'll be worth it. When I priced my furniture, at direct buy it was at least 1/2 off. Some things are better deals than others. You can have stuff delivered also (for a fee like anywhere else) Just be prepared when you go, they won't let you come back and join later.
