DirecTV all the way.
I know people who have switched to Dish to save costs and highly regret it.
We're unable toget cable because of the high cost to bring it down our driveway from across the road.
Does anyone have an opinion on which is better; dish network or direct tv?
TIA

We hate them both. Direct TV was awful about sneaky contract extensions (without our knowledge) but their equipment was a lot better. Dish is less expesive, but their equipment sucks! We had technicians out 5 times in a 3 month period and the problem was never fully fixed. We are going to U-Verse next summer when our Dish contract expires. Good Luck!
I had direct TV it sucked but then my brother had dish and it sucked so I guess they both suck. I know that doesn't help since you are stuck with one or the other.
Don't suppose you have Uverse in your neck of the woods? They piggyback the signal on your land line.
We've had Directv for a loooong time and I love it. I wouldn't go back to cable.
My best friend use to have Dish and hated it and went back to cable. He was sure that Directv was going be the same at Dish and won't even try them.
I like if I have an issue at 2 am I can get someone on the phone to help me. I don't even what I'd have to do to get someone on the phone with Time Warner.
I have direct TV and love it also. I've had other cable types but like it the best
We had dish network and hated it, every time the wind blew or it rained the tv would go out. And it seemed every month I was calling them because we had to reset the cable. Can you get att u-verse? They have been great.
We switched from cable to DirecTV a few years ago and we are pretty satisfied. We did a lot of research on DirecTV and Dish Network and we get more channels with DirecTV. The Golf Channel was the absolute deal breaker for my husband (I could live without it though). DirecTV had it and Dish Network didn't have it so Dish Network was no longer an option for us.
Dish is so much less expensive and they have three times as many satellites as Direct.. plus you get the Blockbuster Movie Pass with Dish Network which is free for a whole year... and 2 free DVR's.. I'd say Dish is your best bet.. hands down..
We've had dish Network for about 5 years and no major complaints. Although we've had a few bum receivers, they've been very quick to replace (and not charge)!! We've moved 3 times and they never charged us a fee for that, either. Bonus: If you call to complain about anything they will comp you free channels (HBO, Showtime) and/or PayPerView coupons!
We have very few stormy days here (desert, west), but only lost our signal once when the dish was covered with snow! You can buy a dish alignment tool at Radio Shack that will help you realign your dish if it gets blown off target (hubby used to install dishes, so he knows all about it)--which is probably the most common cause of lost signals.
My parents have directTV and they pay almost twice what we pay--and have had really crappy customer service!
i would do direct only for this reason in the rain and bad storms will you have tv with a dish!!
We had both dish and direct tv for a while for some reason. Both where comparatively good. But Dish was defenetly better than direct. Dish was good with the price and the package, specially the kind we wanted.
Haven`t had either BUT be very careful with U-Verse! ATT took my number 2 weeks early and refused to give it back to me! I was with out a phone for 3 weeks until I told them I was going to the media haha-I got it back right then! (They told me my cable company had it) and they sneak in extra charges. After a couple of months your bill gets bigger. I Love Net flix.
I can't believe the cable company doesn't incur the cost!
Anyway I've had Dish Network for 10 years and happy with it. I haven't heard too many good things about Direct TV.
I hate DirecTV. We had a HORRIBLE customer service issue with them that was topped with them telling me that per company protocol you can't have your agreement in writing. They had told me I agreed to 2 more years when I hadn't. Dish was good customer service wise for us, but did seem to get choppy with not even very bad weather.
The basic package for Dish does not include National Geographic, Animal PLanet, Hallmark, DIY, The Military Channel, among many others.
We get three free channels once a month or so, so over Christmas we got Hallmark and a couple movie channels.
And if you are watching one of those free channels and don't realize it's a free one that month, the next time you turn on the tv it could be gone.
I am so disappointed in it I am ready to cancel Dish alltogether.
I am thinking of going with Netflicks, but I don't think that has news.
