Hey moms,

Im two weeks away from my due date, but my husband and I already have a 4 year old that is in pre school, and it is expensive!!! Business is really slow for my husband right now, so Im trying to figure out ways to help. Do any of you have any advice?

I work at home for ChaCha. It isn't a ton of money but it really helps out. I have three kids, one who is home all the time and I love being able to work around her. It is the only job I found that I can do with the kids at home. I work with my youngest on my lap half the time! Like I said, it isn't a ton of money but it does help and I find the job fun. Let me know if you want some more information.

Aiden's mama:

Yes, I work from home - I am a recruiter. I only get paid when I place a candidate - it's good money - but right now - although there are a lot of positions to fill - people are hesitant to leave their jobs for the unknown...

Go to cragslist and find your job category and select "telecommute" options - since I don't know what you do - you might find something there.

I would go around my home and take things that have not been touched/USED in six months and sell them on craigslist or ebay.

Take your daughter's clothes - especially ones that still have tags on them - most of us that !! :) and list them on ebay...

Declutter the house and have a yard sale - that's instant cash. you can even post it on craigslist and get more advertising from that...

Have hubby look into a second job. Day care for an infant around here is $350 a week....

If you need to cut back - go through your cell phone bill, electric bill, all of them and find out what you can cut out and back on...you might have to switch carriers to save money...your electric company might have a flat rate program for you...you might not need cable....it's amazing what you find you do NOT need to get by....

Cut coupons. Call the companies of things that you purchase a lot of and ask them for coupons...they will most likely send you one...Eukanuba sends me a $5 and $10 coupon every few months...that means business for them... :)

Make a menu for the week and shop by that...use what you have on hand first. Contact Angelfoodministries - they help EVERYONE - there is NO income barrier on their services..

Make a list of errands that you have to do - make sure you do them in order instead of zipping across town and wasting gas.

See if you can cut back on your daughter's pre-school....is that a necessity or a want? I know education is important but if it means keeping a roof over your head and the electricity on - then maybe it's not a necessity. if you think it is - find out if they have a scholarship program.

You'd be surprised at what you can sell on ebay and craigstlist...it's a great way to earn extra money and keep the house decluttered!!

GOOD LUCK!!

Keep in mind that working from home doesn't usually equate to no childcare. To make decent money, you'll need devoted work time and any telecommuting opportunities will require childcare be lined up. Working and watching kids concurrently just doesn't work.

I've been a freelance public relations writer for 10 years now and love it. I work when my kids are in school. My advice is to think of your professional skill set and whether you can market your services as a consultant. That's where the money is and it's the best way to avoid scams.

If you don't mind doing party sales, look for companies with products you love, whether it's Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, whatever. Recognize, too, that lots of people have pursued these jobs in the downturn, so your market may already be overloaded with reps. Find out from the company what you can expect.

Good luck!

I work full time from home, but like another poster said... I can't watch my children while I work. I'm expected to be at my desk, on the phone or computer for a full eight hours a day during business hours. My kids go to full day preschool. If you have a skill set that is in demand, certainly look for companies that are hiring, but if you're looking for an entry level "work from home" job where you can also watch your newborn... sorry... there really aren't any out there.

Cutting costs is probably the best bet. How about taking your four year old out of preschool to save that money? She's probably having fun and it gives you a break, but preschool isn't necessary and if funds are tight - that's one easy cut.

You can ebay your 4 year old's outgrown clothes! I put $1K toward our summer vacation just doing that.

Have a garage sale!
Use coupons. Buy in bilk. Plan your meals.
Look at your utilities/services and cut what you can, where you can.
Often, you can make more of an impact SAVING money than working PT for a not-great job.
Good luck!

Be careful with the idea to work from home. It sounds great in theory, but you need to WORK. It's like being at an office without the distractions. I worked from home from January-week before last and had to have my kids in daycare still. They could stay home, but it was no fun for them because I was WORKING. You'd need a nanny for the newborn. Working at home does provide flexible hours, but that's about it! I hope you find something. A lot of companies will allow you to work from home - just google them.

Yes I work from home but it is running our brokering/consulting business from home. I do all the bookkeeping (Quickbooks, payroll, AP/AR, scheduling trucking companies to pick up and deliver loads to customers, all travel, etc.)

Don't get trapped into some direct sales/MLM unless you are willing ot put forth the effort, investment and recruiting that it takes.

What are you GOOD at and what do you like to do? THink outside the box...

Sell things you don't need online, are you crafty, make things and sell them online or in craft shops.

You are so close to your due date, you need to be getting ready for that new baby.

Babysitting is a good option but I think for you not the best option right now. You need to take care of you!

Denise has a very good point... some SAHM's save enough money with choices they make with internet service providers, cable companies, cell phone, etc. Figure out what and where you can cut costs that saves you money in the long run.

Congratulations on your new arrival!

I can work from home but I only do it in emergencies. Like if one of my kids was ever sick, healthy little buggers, or snow days.

I am far more efficient in my office so I go here.

You are going to find that most jobs that allow at home work are specialties or professional jobs. There are data entry jobs but they tend to pay less than minimum.

Yes. True online jobs can be tricky, but I have one. You might want to look at odesk.com, biztant.com and hiremymom.com. You pay your own taxes as a freelancer and you have to evaluate each posting. I have sucessfully gotten some jobs from hiremymom.com and a friend uses odesk. You should also put out the word to see if anyone around you needs help with something - are you good at being organized? Any old coworkers know of a short-term project you could do? Etc. You can also ask the preschool if there are any opportunities there to help out to save $.

I own 4 franchises on the internet. I love it. It's something you can weave into your busy schedule and always be available for the family. We are 5 times larger than amazon.com. In fact we just aquired shop.com and are on track to replace amazon.com in the next 12 months or so. We don't make any money off our customers. We get paid the advertising dollars from all the large retailers. We all have tivo and dvrs now so we aren't watching commercials so they had to find other ways to advertise. It's all about affiliate marketing these days. I would love to chat to see if it's a fit for you too. Check out my site. www.coliryan.com
The site will be changing September 14th to a bigger and better site.
PM me if you have questions.
Good luck in your search.

I work full time outside my home and also work from home part time (not much right now because I have been so busy with everything else). What I do can be done around just about any schedule (especially if you aren't working elsewhere) but does take time to get established. If interested, check out my profile and contact me via PM or my website...I can provide you all the info you want/need and there is no cost, obligation, or pressure.

I wish you luck in whatever you decide to pursue.
