i have 2 boys. oldest is 3 and youngest will b 2 in the end of july... i currently was forced to give up their room for someone else and i was wondering if it was legal to have both my kids sleeping in the same room as i am. due to situations i had told someone important that my room was off limits to my children.

What can I do next?

No it is not illegal - I don't know of any situation where it would be illegal for people to sleep in the same room - I mean, what about when you go camping? or have an RV?
My kids share a room (boy and girl) they like it!

While I don't consider it optimal to have a toddler and preschooler sleeping in your room, the legalities are up to your landlord. If you are renting, he may say that a family with X number of members needs at least X bedrooms. I don't understand your point about telling someone "important" that your room is off limits to your children.

It's not illegal. Some people only HAVE one room for their family.

I would also consider what OTHER rooms in your home could be used as bedrooms. Is there a dining area that is never used? A family room or formal living room? Do you need both? An office?

When my oldest was a baby, his "room" was a partitioned area of the living room. Little ones don't care.

It is not a huge deal nor illegal for kids to share a room. If you lived in low income housing you would have one bedroom for these boys. They would be sharing.

It is not optimal, having your own room is always fun but if you can't do that right now you can't.

I have a friend who worked very hard in hotels as a cleaning lady. She would go to work as early as 6am and stay as late as the afternoon check in. She stayed until all the rooms from the night were cleaned and ready for the people coming that day.

She could only afford a 2 bedroom apartment. She had a boy in elementary school and a girl that was preschool age. In the extra bedroom she had 2 twin beds and 2 small bookshelves with their own toys and belongings on it.

She worked and worked, every hour she could get so they could save money.

The bought a house in the lower income census area of town for a very very very low price with minimal down. They do not have nice furniture or fancy pictures on the walls but she has 3 bedrooms for the kids to have and a yard for them to play in.

A different friend had 4 children. A tween girl, an elementary school age boy, and twin pre-schoolers, a boy and a girl. She got an apartment through low income housing. They gave her a 4 bedroom apartment and told her "This is how" she was to set up their bedrooms.

The same sex kids were too different in ages to share or she would have only gotten a 3 bedroom. She was to give the older girl one bedroom, the older boy his own bedroom and the twins were to share. She was a bit upset because she didn't feel it was okay for different gender kids to share but she was told by the HUD worker that since they were close in age it was perfectly fine for them to share. Once they reached school age she would have to move though....

Sometimes there are sacrifices to be made and it isn't ideal but if you work to make it work then you'll be able to do it well.

There's no 'legal' reason they can't sleep in your room until they're older. However, they really should have their own space.

Children share rooms all the time, especially same gender. I know people who have more than enough bedrooms for each child to have their own room, but they choose for the kids to share. My boys (7&10) share. One may move to a downstairs bedroom eventually, but for now everyone is happy where they are. My nephews shared until they were teens and their older sister moved away from home. OK, I read the question wrong. I thought it was about the kids sharing a room, not sharing with you. Personally, I would let the kids share a room together, and you take the couch.

not sure what 'situations' could account for this enigmatic scenario, but yes, it's perfectly legal for kids to share your room and no, they don't *need* their own rooms. it's nice if they can have it, and in our wealthy country most kids can. it's certainly not the case in most of the world.

I can't believe some of the rude responses you have gotten! It is fine for your kids to share a room or to share your room. There may be some rules about how many people can be living in your home because of fire codes. It is also a law that if someone is sleeping in a room that there must be two escape routes in case of a fire (doors and/or windows). I agree with some of the earlier responses that you have gotten. The concern would be the safety of your children. The person living with you should not be a threat to your children and your kids can't be exposed to adult activities. Many families share not only bedrooms but also beds. As long as your children are safe, you should be OK.

My cousin is currently remodeling her entire upstairs. Her her is doing most of the work while working a 7 day a week job, so her, her husband and her son have been sharing the living room as a bedroom for about 18 mnths (or since her son was born.)
