P.K.
We did it. I wished we'd done it sooner because we waited until after his first birthday. There are other companies who do the helmets too. I would check into the other companies too. We used the DOC band and were pretty pleased since he was 15 months when we started. His case was pretty bad and we waited too long. Even though we knew that we couldn't get a 'perfect' head we went ahead with it. It did make a really big difference. Most people don't notice it at all. I wish I'd considered it sooner because the shape of my son's head has caused problems in one of his ears. You may feel it's only cosmetic but you may be wrong. My son had chronic ear infections that were caused because the shape of his skull screwed up the workings of the inner ear...who knew! He's now 3 and most people don't notice at all. I've got his 'old head' in his closet on the top shelf where he can't reach. They make a model head to form the band and they let me have it once he was done. It's kinda funny to have your kids head on a stick! If you have concerns about how your son will react to the helmet don't worry because he won't. I was shocked. My son has sensory issues and wouldn't wear a hat EVER! I was really afraid of his reaction and prepared myself for some long nights and screaming fits. We put it on his head and he literally acted like nothing was there. I took him home for a nap and he went right to sleep and the band didn't bother him at all. It was actually kind of nice because if he fell or banged his head into anything the band protected his head like a bike helmet. He walked quite late because of his crooked head so it was nice that when he hit the dirt his head was ok. I would recommend it to anyone. Get it going right away because the sooner the better. You'll be glad you did.
