Does Anyone See Dr. Laurie Stanczak? Opinions of Henry Ford Macomb Hospital?

Hi moms!

We recently found out that we're pregnant with our second child, and I've been looking for a new OB/GYN because I was unhappy with my previous doc. We came across Dr. Stanczak whose office is in Chesterfield. She works with the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital group, I think.

Have any of you moms seen her before? Likes or dislikes? What's her personality like? How does she run her office? Is the staff friendly and knowledgeable?

Also, any experiences with the birthing center at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital?

Thanks so much in advance for your responses!

So What Happened?

So we went for our initial appointment with Dr. Stanczak yesterday. I'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far. I like the fact that her office sent out the new client paperwork for me to have filled out ahead of time so I wasn't stuck in the waiting room filling out papers for an hour. The paperwork itself was a bit lengthy, but thorough. The staff seemed nice. My nurse, Ann, was very nice and attentive. Dr. Stanczak herself seems knowledgeable and assuring and made me feel comfortable in her care. She was attentive to my husband's questions, and the office was okay with us bringing our son to the appointment! I thank all of you who responded, and look forward to our experience with her as our OB.

I had a different doctor but delivered at Henry Ford Macomb. I had a great experience. My daughter was 4 weeks premature and we were in there longer than the usual patient. The doctors and nurses were very attentive and I would recommend that hospital.

I don't know the doctor, but I delivered both of my girls at Henry Ford (although it was St. Joe's then). I had great experiences there and the nursing staff on the maternity floor was very helpful...Congratulations!

Howdy Christina,
I just had my baby girl with Dr. Stanczak 5 weeks ago. I used to go to Dr. Levin who delivered my first son who I am still recovering from. Not to get into details but both myself and my sister-in-law would not recommend Dr. Levin, while he is very medically competent ... he does NOT listen to his patients.

Dr. Stanczak in comparison is AWESOME! As my husband said of my delivery ... she was a calming force in the room, she knew exactly what was going on and was in control the entire time. I delivered a normal quick vaginal delivery (to which dr. Levin said for sure I would have to have a C-section). She even let my husband, sister and mother-in-law in the room (she says "if they don't get in my way, I don't mind them here") which was not hospital policy (only 2 people) and was very nice to have all the people I wanted in the room there for me.

Also in her office is Dr. Beros ... very lovely dr, also very competent and nice (I went into pre-term labor with her as she was on call). So I hope you find this helpful, in my humble opinion ... I think she is a wonderful Doctor.

Office is very nice and helpful ... I have gotten same day appointments when needed and the nurses are really friendly. She is friendly but not overly bubbly or super talkative ... just normal ... so you trust what she has to say.

As for Henry Ford Macomb ... I had both my babies there and really wouldn't consider anywhere else ... Having gone into pre-term labor there and dealing with the residents (all fantastic) and not MY doctor (she wasn't on call at that time) I really have asked for more. I was VERY happy with the facilities (clean, large, private) and the lactation consultant there Denise Tononi (sp?) is fantastic and I have seen her a couple times for help with breast feeding.

Good luck!
M.

Hi Christina,
I teach chilbirth education and have 'heard' that HF Macomb is pretty good. High marks on having tubs available for Moms to birth in. Sorry, no experience with that OB. If you are interested in a wonderful way to birth using hypnosis/relaxation, go to www.YourPeacefulBirthing.com

Congrats on your pregnancy,

Congrats on the new baby on the way!

Dr. Stanczak delivered my son almost 12 years ago when she was still in training. She was very nice and very professional!

On a side note, I have known her since 6th grade and she has always been a very kind, considerate person.

I don't know about her office or anything, but can say she is a great person!

I delivered my son at Henry Ford Macomb when it was still St. Joe's. It is a wonderful facility with a fantastic staff. The nurses were the best! My OB was Dr. Ronald Levin and he works out of the medical building attached to the hospital. He was voted one of the "Top Docs" by Hour Detroit Magazine a few years ago and the nurses all love him. If the nurses love working with him, it's a good indication of how great he is. Nurses are some of the toughest judges. Congratulations and good luck!

Hi Christina,

Congratulations! I had both of my girls at Henry Ford Macomb (St. Joe's) through Dr. Malatai Patel. I loved the nurses there, very friendly and knowledgeable. If my husband and I are to have more children I would use Dr. Laurie Stanczak, because Dr. Patel is no longer delivering babies. Dr. Stanczak is very professional in and out of the hospital. I have known her through my profession (which is unrelated to babies) for 10+ years. When I was pregnant and she would come into my work, she always took the time to ask me how I was doing and asked if I had any questions and she knew Dr. Patel was my doctor. She truly loves what she does and understands because she has children of her own. I would definetly recommend her to anyone. Have fund scrapbooking... I love it!

She was my doctor but I switched during the middle of my pregnancy. I was working and even though I was very ill she was not willing to write my a script to take a couple of days off. I just felt that she was not sympathetic. I switched to another doctor with more experience which I was thrill. He knew that my daughter was breach. He has retired but I think he saved me a lot of grief since I didn't have to go through labor. I had a schudule c-section.
