Hi. I'm new here and have already read up a little bit on the subject. I'm pregnant with our first child and need a good OB. I would prefer a female, closer to Richmond. I haven't decided if I want to go to Henry Ford Macomb-Clinton or Mt. Clemens General. Any and all suggestions are welcome!! Feedback please!! Thank you!

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone so much for their help!! I was just having a super hard time with this decision as a first time mom. I have animal children and I have worked really hard to find a good doctor for them, and this is just so important. I made an appointment with Dr. Timothy Kim. I couldn't decide between him or Dr. Stanczak, but they both seem to be excellent choices. I was always leaning toward Henry Ford and that seems to be the favorite here. Again, thank you so much and I look forward to being a part of this mom community!

I have had 3 babies. The first 2 ob's were women. The last one was a man, Dr. Timothy Kim. He is soooo awesome. The women I had were good to see during the checkup appts. But when it came time to deliver. The first one kept acting like she was better at delivering babies than me. She had just delivered a couple months prior. Kinda acted like I was a big baby with the pain. The second woman doctor was out of Dr. Timothy Kims office. Her name was Dr. Laurie Stanczak. She was really nice through all the checkups too. During delivery she threatend me with a c section to get me to push better. It freaked me out and I pushed with all my might. She told my husband it works every time. That really upset me. You don't do that to people in a delicate moment like that. So I switched to Dr. Kim in the same office. I loved him. I can't say anything bad about him. He was soooo reassuring during the delivery. I wanted to do it natural the last time. I did. He kept congratulating me on how good a job I was doing. When the baby came out he acted like he was part of the family. He said Happy Birthday baby. He had no problems with videoing and picture taking during delivery. And he spends tons of time with you answering any questions you have. The office is on 23 mile rd. right before I94 freeway. You would deliver out of Henry Ford Macomb. I wish you luck. D.

p.s. be careful with Dr. Enid Roberts. My good friend had her. She liked her alot. But Dr. Roberts talked her into inducing labor 2 weeks before her due date. Dr. was gonna be on vacation. My friend agreed and she was induced where she spent 18 hours trying to dilate with falsely induced contractions. The baby ended up turning and then they had to do a c section. Don't let anyone talk you into inducing. Let your body do go into labor naturally. When you mess with mother nature things like that happen. I even went 2 weeks past my due date with my last one. She was 7 lbs. and came out nice and quick. Refuse pitocin if at all possible. Dr's now a days always try to rush things along so they can go home and not spend hours in delivery. It's your special day, your money, and your decision. Remember that.

When I found out that we were pregnant with our second child five months ago, I switched OB's and began seeing Dr. Laurie Stanczak, who works in the same office as Dr. Timothy Kim (whom another poster mentioned). I like her so far and don't have any complaints. The staff is friendly, the facilities are clean, I never feel rushed, and Dr. Stanczak seems knowledgeable about and comfortable in her practice. Plus she has her own kids! I don't know if that's a big deal for you, but when I was looking for OB's I really wanted a woman who had had kids of her own.

I know Dr. Stanczak delivers at Henry Ford Macomb, I'm not sure about Dr. Kim. I visited Henry Ford Macomb back when it was St. Joseph Mercy (I think that was the name, it was two years ago) and liked the facility, and the fact that Dr. Stanczak delivers there was also a plus for me because I think I want to deliver there. You can look at some of the hospital's accommodations here: http://www.henryfordmacomb.com/academic_macomb.cfm?id=48356

You can look at Dr. Stanczak's bio here: http://www.henryfordmacomb.com/body_macomb.cfm?id=38441&a...

Here's Dr. Kim's info: http://www.henryfordmacomb.com/body_macomb.cfm?id=38441&a...

Here is the office addy:

I see a good dr. named Dr. Grreene out of contempary gynecology. You can go on the web and check them out they have a web site. There good. I also have seen a dr through Beaumont who has switch hospitals and not sure where he's at but he is a good dr. His name is dr.Papapanos. The first dr i was talking about has a lady in his practice there are 5-6 of them. You do need to see each one but if you perfer one out of the other to deliver you that is possible. I am a real stickler if i see you all the time I want you to deliver me not just any tom dick or harry. So that's another reason I like him. But check out the site www.contemparygynocologist.com

Hi T.,
My OB/GYN is Dr. Kevin Fahey. His office is in New Haven. He is in the New Haven Medical Center on Gratiot Ave (58144). Phone: ###-###-#### It's a nice office and he has a mid-wife as well that he works with. He delivered all of my children & is very good. The hospital he delivers at is Henry Ford Macomb. I spent approximately 12 week on bed rest at the hospital. The hospital staff is great in the labor and delivery area. I wish you the best!

I used Dr. Enid Roberts with our 3rd (we are military and have been in different states with different doctors for each child!) Her office is off 23 mile Rd. in Chesterfield. She was wonderful and I wish I could have had her for all 3 of my pregnancies. We delivered at Mt. Clemens General and had a wonderful experience there as well. Good luck!

Well I don't know of any in the Richmond area but I use Dr. Ronald Levin he is through Henry Ford Macomb he's great. His office is located in the same parking lot as the hospital so although it's not really close to you it is next door to the hospital. I would def. recommend Henry Ford over Mt. CLemen's any day I've just heard too many negative things about Mt. Clemen's although I have personally never had any of my children there I've heard enough bad thing's through word a mouth that I will never go there. But it is alway's a personal choice.
