I have an 19 month old daughter and am expecting an another one in 12 weeks. We are shopping for double strollers - side by side -strollers. I really don't like the idea of blocking one child behind the other! I would like to use the infant car seat on one side of the stroller for my newborn at least for sometime. At the same time be able to let my toddler sit and watch around her. She loves to watch around her and is most happy observing (when she is not running anyway). I would also like the seat to recline to give her the chance to be able to relax or sleep in the stroller. Have any of you mothers have had good experience with such an arrangement? Which double stroller did you use? Your inputs are greatly welcome.
We liked the Joovy ultralight caboose too, with the jumpseat for the toddler. Another one I looked at (but my DD was older than yours, so we couldn't use it for long) was the Kolcraft contours options. It allows you to configure it six different ways I think, kids facing each other, one facing you, etc.

It is new to the market and the only side by side that allows the infant to face you and the toddler face out. (or both face u or both face out) the seats are completely independent of each other.
I just put it together and it seems like its gonna work! There is a car seat adapter and a bassinet as well if you want them

The sit n stand. Comes in either 2 seats with removable seat or one seat with carseat adapter and a jump seat for the toddler. We have the jumpseat one and my toddler loves it!
I have a combi side by side that is very lightweight and my little ones fit very well. I had a graco carrier that would fit on it but didn't really snap on. We used the carrier so infrequently with her that I didn't check to see if there might be an adaptor feature on the combi website. The stroller is very light weight and folds very easy. My only complaint is the baskets underneath aren't big enough.
A 19 month old is really too young for a sit and stand type stroller. There isn't a real seat for her and there isn't a harness to hold her in. When they are older it may work for you...but not as a first/only stroller type situation.
Have you tried out a Phil and Ted's Sport yet? I know you said you didn't like the idea of one child blocking the other - but most feel that way until they try it out! There are lots of configurations and your older daughter would be in the top/front seat most of the time. The side by side ones are BIG. Since your DD is so young - you will have a lot of time in strollers and will find the side by side ones cumbersome when you go into a store, go to a crowded festival, etc.
Try the Phil and Ted's before you decide :)

onestepahead.com has a very affordable double stroller with reclining seats. It will not work for a newborn, but I used it for my baby and either my 4-year-old or my 2-year-old once my baby was 4 or 5 months. It is a side-by-side stroller. You can definitely buy fancier ones, but this one does the trick and has a great price (plus, it has the nice big wheels and can go through anything).
The double Bob will do all of those things. They're pricey but really great, especially if you plan to do long walks, walk on uneven surfaces (bumpy sidewalks) or jog. Can sometimes be found on craigslist or ebay.
