Dressing Baby in Colder Weather

Hi all. Its starting to get colder and I'm not sure what my son should be wearing when he is outside. The only time he'll probably be outside is getting in and out of the car between locations. I've seen the bunting outfits but I'm afraid he would be hot in his carseat with one of those on. My cousin let me borrow her "bundle me" fleece blanket thingie that attaches to the car seat and I think I might just use that. Just wondering what you dressed your little one's in during the winter months.

What can I do next?

I used the bunting cover for the carseat and it worked GREAT!! She is a warm baby but never got to hot or knock on wood she has never been sick yet!! The only downfall was when she out grew the infant carseat she did not want to wear a coat.

Dress him like you dress yourself. If you're warm he's more than likely warm, too. If you do use a snowsuit or something unzip it a bit if you've been in the car for awhile and the car is already warm. I always took an extra blanket just in case, too.

I used the "bundle me" wrap with my daughter last year and it was great. If you like your baby is getting to warm you can unzip it and uncover him, and it also makes for easy access when you need to do a diaper change.

Good morning C.,

The fleece bundle me that attaches to the car seat is what I would recommend. They say that we should dress out kid the same as we dress our selves.

I have an 18 month old and that is what I used when she was little. I would put her in a med coat with a sweatshirt or sweater underneith. she always stayed warm on the fleese bundle.

If you little boy gets warm during the drive you can always pull the fleece down in the front to cool him down. If you have him in a outfit you can't remove those as easliy.

Take care
P.

Well he is still really small. I wouldnt really bother putting him in much more than the outfit you want him to wear. When my son was that age I would dress him and then put him in his car seat that attached to the car unit. Then I just made sure that the car was heated up before putting him in EVERY time. Then when you take him outside from the house to the car-he will be protected from the cold by the little blanket attachment you received. He will always be warm, out of the cold and not be too hot when he is in the car driving with you. It is much easier that way. (You can even bring another blankie with you and if you feel the baby is getting cold at any time in the car, use it!) Hope this helps. Good Luck!

My daughter was the same age last winter as your son will be this winter. I usually dressed her as usual for indoors, then put a light winter jacket and hat on her, and then her heavy baby blanket overtop. If she got warm in the car I could remove her hat or blanket really easily. When it was time to go outside, I'd kinda wrap her blanket around her if it was really cold out. As long as the car was warm and we weren't outside for very long, it was plenty. I didn't ever want her to get too warm and then start to sweat, cause that could make her even colder when we got outside.

I never liked those infant "snow suits" or heavy coats. It's dangerous to have too many layers on in the carseats, and they're such a pain to get off if babe starts to overheat! Just my 2 cents!

My son was born late October last year. I never used anything more than the car seat attachment. I was also worried that he would be too warm in a car seat and a coat or snowsuit. It worked fine for me

There is something out there called a "Carseat Poncho." It is made to go over your child's head to keep them warm when going to and from the car, but not get in the way of the carseat. I think if you google carseat poncho, it will come up.

Hi C. -

My son was born Jan.2, so I understand your dressing dilemma! I used the bundle me as well and loved it. I just made to sure to put a hat and socks on him and and let him wear what he would be wearing for the day. At that age, you transport with them in the carseat, so I found it easier to use the bundle me than to bundle him!

I also tried the bunting outfit and he was sweating by the time we got to our location!

My pediatrition told me to dress a baby in one more layer than I would wear. That always worked for us.

I dressed mine for the place that we would be going (home, grandma's, shopping, etc) then put the bundle me over the car seat. Everybody keeps their house a different temp. I always packed a lighter or heavier change of clothes and put him in layers so that I could easily adjust his clothing if he was too hot/cold.
