My 2-year-old son and I were given tickets to the Monster Jam. Neither of us have ever gone, but we've heard that it gets really loud. Any advice on ear protection would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for the advice. I bought some wax ear plugs (used for swimming) to put in my son's ears. I also bought the ear protection that people use when firing guns that will cover his ears and keep him from messing with the ear plugs. I'm going to start them with my son now so by next month I hope he'll leave them alone during Monster Jam.
I really appreciate all the feedback!

He did wonderfully! Our seats were really high and he ended up not wearing the ear protection through the entire show, but the noise wasn't too bad.

I'm sorry that I can't help you with the ear protection, but maybe you can help me? I am expecting my first in a few months and there are 2 guys that could possibly be the father. WEll obviously it's only one LOL. BUT one of them threatned to sue for 1/2 or full custody. He already has 2 kids. I DO NOT want my baby going with him without me being there. How can I make sure that if he does get visitation it's with me. He smokes pot which is why I don't want my baby around him. I know I have to get a paternity test, but I'm not going to file for child support. So, unless he goes to the court first nothing can happen right? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have fun!!!

A friend of mine from work took her son last year. She said that she bought the headphones with ear plugs on them from Sears (the ones people wear while they're mowing grass or something) she said that he enjoyed it!

Wow, That sounds like fun.
I would just try some of the wax/rubber ear plug material you can get from Target or Walmart on the aisle near the pharmacy that they sell all the ear drops and stuff. I used the water resistant material for my daughter during the summer and they seem to work well.

When my husband took 2 of our girls last year to the one in Tampa, I gave them ear muffs to wear. They might be making a fashion statement, but it muffled the sound enough and it kept their ears warm. Plus they are fairly cheap. Also if your local Walmart/Target has a gun section, you can get the better ear protectors there. Those ones are great for when you want to tune out your kids in the house LOL.

We took our 2 1/2 year old son, it was my first time as well. When they say its loud, its not just airplane over your head loud, it is makes your whole body tremble loud! As much as my son loves the trucks and did have a good time, initially he was pretty freaked out, and frankly had I know it would be that loud, I would have waited til he was a bit older. On top of the earplugs, I had my hands (and his) over his ears the whole time. Now, this was a smaller, more local monster jam, so the bleachers didnt go up that far, and it was also a covered, outdoor arena, so I suppose a larger open arena might be different...the real "Monster Jams' are usually at like football stadiums, so you may be able to get further away from it then we could.
We had the foam earplugs...and they sold them there as well...but you could get them at walmart...the foam ones you roll in your hand then insert.
Hope this helps.

Wax earplugs work really well if he'll let you put them in his ear but check where you are sitting. the fumes are terrible from the trucks - if your not sitting high up i would think again about exposing lungs to the fumes and his ears to the noise level.

I agree with the foam earplugs. They don't totally block the sound, but they do keep it from being harmful. You can wear them and still enjoy the music.

When we go to the air show, which is also vert loud, we use the soft moldable ear plugs. They work really well.

My husband and I went to an F1 race in Indy last year. Young kids had ear muff protection, similar to what the lawn guys were. I am not sure where they purchased them, probably from a car magazine.

We are going again this year, I will need it for our daughter.
