Early to Rise?

What time do your kids wake up on weekends? Our 4 year old and 11 month old invariably wake up on weekends before 6am. My husband gets soooo frustrated by it, and we take turns on weekends "sleeping in" (one of us gets up with the kids while the other sleeps another hour or so), but he still gets all cranky about it. Most of my friends I talk to say their kids do the same thing, but my husband isn't convinced ("Why can't they just sleep?!"). Their rooms are dark, they have white noise machines in their rooms, and they both sleep through the night (4year old down at 8pm, up by 6m; 11 month old down by 7pm, up by 6am). I'm not so much interested in how to make them sleep later, as much as wondering what time do your kids get up? I want my husband to believe early rising is normal, but then again, maybe I'm off. Can I poll this site? How old are your kids and what time do they wake? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Hi T.,
my 2 1/2 year old rarely sleeps in past 7am. If she sleeps in past 7am then I'm always amazed! She was waking anywhere between 5am and 6am at one point. I have an 8 month old too.. he goes to bed at 6 or 7 and wakes sometimes for a bottle around 4am or may skip the bottle and wake at 5am and stay awake! It's frustrating I know! My mother-in-law told me that she would leave out a bowl of cheerios for them to get in the morning. Him and his sister were 4 and 6 at the time. they would just help themselves and get their cheerios and turn on the tv to watch cartoons. Early rising I think is very normal.. especially if you have your kids on some sort of bedtime.

You sound like me and my husband...lol! Our 3.5yr. old is asleep between 7:30 and 8:30 and is up between 5:00 - 6:00 a.m. My 14mo. old is asleep by 7:00 and is up between 6:00 - 7:00. I sympathize with your husband. I've said many of times "Why can't they sleep?!?"

Hi T.,
I have a two year old and she sleeps till 9-10AM. But I don't put her to bed until 9PM. What it all comes down to is what time you put them to bed. I believe toddlers usually sleep about 10-12 hours a night. So you put them to bed early, they get up early. You put them to bed later, they get up later. Also, they are not going to "sleep in" on the weekends. They don't know the difference and since their bedtime doesn't change, the time they wake up wont change either. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Wow, after reading the responses, I almost feel kind of lucky...my son is 4 1/2 and he has always gotten up about 6:30am. It doesn't matter how late or early he is put down, he's still up at that same time, every freakin' day. I guess that's why parents wake teenagers, because after all those years of them waking their parents...revenge! LOL!

Well I can't speak for my own son because he's way young. However, I can tell you that my niece and nephew were early birds. They were up between 5-6 am. Part of it I think has to do with how early they are put to bed. My 8 week old is put down between 9-10 pm and sleeps until about 10 the next day with usually one (maybe 2) wakings at night. But that's a different deal. If i had him in bed earlier he'd be done sleeping earlier.
