Fashion 911 Question

Hi Ladies,
My husband and I are going to a dressy function this weekend. I am wearing a black skirt and a fitted black top. My problem is with the belt. It comes with the top and has a small sparkly square buckle. It is a cinch belt so it doesn't actually have a tongue or tooth or whatever it is that goes into belt holes. The problem is in keeping it tightened. The top has little black thread loops sewn on the side that hold the belt up so I'm not worried about it falling off, but the top looks best when the buckle is centered and fairly snug. Right now the belt slowly loosens so the buckle is drooping down a bit. The top is satin so I'm trying to avoid putting a safety pin or velcro on it b/c it will snag the fabric. Any suggestions on how to keep it snug?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies for all your helpful and thoughtful suggestions. I bought fashion tape at the local fabric store and cut it to fit the belt. It held more securely than I thought it would. We had a wonderful evening and I danced the night away without any problems. Thank you!

Easiest solution would be to get a small black rubber band (I have about a hundred floating around the house...the hair type...even if you don't have any, buying a whole pack would only cost a dollar)...then thread one end of the belt through it, then loop it around that end over and over, just like a pony tail. Then, carefully thread the other end of the belt through the "holder" you've made.

Try fashion tape, its double stick tape designed not to ruin your clothes. Bed bath and beyond carries it.

I'm not that clever but it seems if there was a way to secure the buckle once you have it at the right tightness and centered....have you tried calling a shoe cobbler or alterations shop to see if they have a little gadget that can be clipped onto the buckle part, underneath, to keep it from moving.

Or I would change out the belt for a cute patent leather one.

First of all always cut off those awful thread loops.. They are just to ship and display the belt, they are never meant to be actually worn..

Then go to the fabric store and tell them the problem. They make?sell little invisible clips that will lock th belt in the stay position..

can you sew or glue velcro or snaps onto the belt?

I usually make my own little belt clip if you can't find one to purchase. I use a matching fabric elastic hair band to tuck the end of the belt in. So, get a nice black one and wrap it around a few times and use that as the belt support.

Either use double stick fashion tape, can find in Target in the undies section or but another belt, that has the "tooth" to adjust size. Have fun!

Take it to a seamstress and have her add another thread loop right by the buckle. Have fun!

Ugh. I hate belt loops and always cut them off. Unless it's on one of my long sweaters. Those "belts" aren't meant to be tied all the time or I tie them loosely in the back.
Anyway, fabric stores have clips that fit on the belt near the buckle to keep them from slipping. Check it out.

Have a great time at your function!

can you sew/ glue a little button snap (like on the bottom children's one piece shirts) onto the end of the part of the belt that loops through the buckle and at the spot it stops on the belt? just loop it through and then snap the end to keep it all in place. The only issue would be if you gain or loose weight! then it won't line up :) . Have a great night!!
