- Convertible crib
- Dresser w/ changing table on top
- Rocker/glider
- soft walls (yellow or green)

I would paint it a neutral color, pale yellow or green, Also check out Moms to Moms Sales on the web. Great bargains at this time of year. Garage sales are another source when the weather warms up.

Personally: What agency did you go through? Also is there a fees involved?

We are also doing the same. How far are you in the process? Our agency required us to have a crib ready before we even got fully licensed especially if looking for those ages. A converter crib is nice since it can accommodate to age 4 (and even 5 depending on the child's size) with the toddler bed option. Paint a neutral color. Good luck.

Congrats to you for opening your hearts and home to children who need you.

I would buy a convertible crib in a light, natural color. Then it would work for either a boy or girl, and all ages.
Something like this:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3427804

For color, I would use a light/med. blue or yellow.

For theme, I would pick something neutral -
Classic Winnie the Pooh: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2415172

turtles/frogs: http://www.babysupermall.com/main/products/brd/brd1384prb...
http://www.babysupermall.com/main/products/ltb/ltb###-###...

precious moments - there is a cute 'neutral one' at http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2991211;

You'll also want
a regular size clothes hamper.
a rocking chair or recliner.
A small table or nightstand.
A baby monitor
A chest of drawers with an optional changing table on top.

Good luck

Absoloutly. Make this child feel very welcome and at home in a cozy environment. You don't need to buy brand new. Go onto freecycle.org and create an account in your area. You can put a wanted ad in for what you need and it's very likely that things will come your way. The website is for people who don't want to throw things away but rather recycle and give to someone who will use it. Good luck with it.

we do foster care too. I found my church and school family very helpful for furnishing our rooms. We put out an SOS for things and within hours we had everything we needed. Even people I didn't know bought clothes and diapers for us. People are always looking to get rid of baby stuff and figure this is a good cause. Also not everyone feels that they could open up their homes to a child so this is their way of helping without all the commitment!! Let people bless you it makes them feel good and helps you out. We didn't buy anything!!

Hi S. -

I guess my question to you would be - Why wouldn't you buy some things for the room and paint it? Esp. if you don't like the color it currently is. I agree with the other posters - I would paint it a neutral color and buy some gender neutral items.

If you have a dollar tree near you, they have some great room wall decorations that peel off later. also a great coat of paint does wonders for amy space. We just got marvel posters from there for 50 cents each for my son's room, and re-did the bathroom in a jungle theme using the wall stickers. Everything in there is a dollar or under, so maybe go and see what you like.

Also--go to freecycle.org and sign up for the local site. You can p/u great things others are getting rid of, and post "wants' for other stuff you dont see listed.

good luck!

Absolutely paint it! Its cheap and makes a huge difference in the atmosphere of the room. I wouldn't put a lot of money into furniture as foster care can be unpredictable - as far as knowing how long a child will remain with you... Garage sales can be a great option. Best wishes, quality foster care is NEEDED! Bless you for being willing to do it!

Good for you!!! We did Emergency Foster care in VA for three years. We only got little ones and they were in a crib in our room.
Absolutely paint and get a crib. If you are sure you will get babies. If you get older kids you will want a twin bed in there too.
