Fully Potty Trained but Now Having Naptime Accidents

I have the same issues with my almost three year old girl. I do use pull ups for nap time and night time. I explained to her the function of it and that she is not a baby for wearing it then it just keeps her from feeling yucky when she wakes up after an accident. She is good with this and is very happy to wear her big girl undies the rest of the time. It has worked well for us but everyone is different. I hope you find a good solution and if this helped at all I am glad.

It could be a phase he is going through. I know if you don't make a big deal out of it he will over come quicker. There are pads you can get for him to sleep on that you can just throw out or in the wash depending on what you get. My son has aspergers and has a problem waking to use the bathroom. I bought the rubber pads that go on the bed at linnins and things. Now when he has an accident he get's up changes his clothes and puts on a new pad and I take care of the rest later. Another hint if you soak the clothes and bedding in vinigar it will help with the urine smell.

We put a little potty in my daughter's room so she could easily get up and use it during naps and bedtime. We also had to watch her fluid intake before naps. Other than that, in the beginning we did put a pullup on her at nap time and bedtime because I got sick of changing the linens and it was interfering with her sleep. We used to call it her special sleepy time underpants.

Hey, I have noticed with my three yrear old that when she wears a pullup, she will go in it. Sometimes it takes her a few minutes to go to sleep and in that time frame if she has a pullup on, she won't get up and go. And she has a bathroom in her room. So don't feel discopuraged, you are not alone in this. Has anything in his schedule been thrown off? My daughter has accidents everyday nap or night time.... but in your case, if its only been happening recently, and not every nap, then it could be stress. That is one of the number one causes. Anyone visiting? Anyone move? Any big changes occur in his life? That may be the problem.

Hi S., Why would using pullups make the situation worse? He may be crying because he wakes up all wet and doesn't want you to be disappointed. He is doing a great job being potty trained before turning 3! As he gets older his bladder control will get better and he will stop having accidents at napttime. Personally, I would rather not change sheets and would use pullups at naptime. Another thought- has anything in his routine changed? My daughter began wetting the bed about once a week when she started Kindergarten until she adjusted to the new routine.

My name is Cindy and I have a 5 year old who still wears pull ups at night. It doesn't make the situation any worse and it seems to keep things calm when he has a accident at night. As it saves me on laundry. I have always heard that boys take longer to become fully potty trained than girls. Something about the nerve response that you feel when you gotta go takes londer to develope in boys. But I think pull pus are a great idea.

I never had this problem during nap time, but I do have it during the night. My daughter is almost 4yrs old and has been potty trained for 1 1/2 yrs now. We still have accidents at night, although not every night. Having spoken to my Pediatrician about it, she has told me not to worry that she will grow out of it. I think you are definitely doing the right thing with your son. But I do know what it's like to have to change the bed linens on a daily basis!! :( I found a waterproof pad that fits like a saddle on her bed. It is cloth, so it feels just like the sheets, but is waterproof on the bottom, so as not to let any fluid through. I just put that on top of the sheets and if she has an accident, I only have to change that. I have a couple of these that I am able to rotate throughout the night, etc. This has definitely made life so much easier!!! I hope this helps!

Hey there, I just read your email and my thought as I was reading was "pull up, pull up, pull up....." but the I read your resistance to them. I completely understand where you are coming from, but I had to leard they are not my enemy! They can help without hindering any progress made. My daughter had been potty trained for almost 6 months and she wears a pull up only at night. The catch is, she NEVER pees in it. It is for her own peace of mind. She used to wear one at nap too, but she has kind of gone to "quiet time" now so if she has to go she is still awake. I have friends whose kids still do go potty in them during the night and I know that to some of us it is like a crutch. But, it sounds that at nap time your son your son just needs a little back up. He will probably get over it with time like you said. He may never even use them, like my daughter, but feel safer just having it on (and if he does use one for a couple months or so it will save on his sadness and your laundry!).
