Nursed my baby until 18 mos (12/20). I guess I have been eating too much for 2 + years now. So disappointing. I get to gym 3x week for a class but need to make eating changes. Any inspiration for a girl with bad habits and zero willpower?? Thanks

No you weren't eating too much for 2 yrs. You were eating the amount of food needed to feed yourself and someone else.
Well, turn it around and start taking that toddler out more and chase him/her around the playground. If your willpower is weak (mine is) do not buy temptation. Eat at home instead of fast food out. Bring snacks like carrots and apple slices if you get hungry. Do not buy that sale bag of potato chips (and why are they so often buy one, get one, but only in the giant size??). Etc. Even something little like cutting out that super extra fluffy latte with cream on top can make a difference. When I do indulge (because we all do) I put the chips in a kid bowl. Then I only eat those chips vs having the whole bag in front of me. I also try to drink more water.
That said, I also agree with the poster who says you weren't eating to much. You ate what you needed. You were growing a baby. You needed the extra calories for the kid. Now that your calories out has dropped, you need to adjust the calories in. No beating yourself up on your diet to this point, OK?
This is so common. The same thing happened to me after weaning. I had to re calibrate at meals - take a reasonable serving then really stop and think - am I really still hungry? Before taking any more. Usually the answer is no, I'm just taking more because it tastes good and not actually because I'm hungry.
This could be something completely different. I thought the same thing when I stopped nursing one of my babies. I gained 15 to 20 pounds. It turned out that my thyroid was not working properly, which is actually something that many women experience after having a baby. I would have your blood drawn to check your TSH level. You may have hypothyroidism. This is very easily treated with a small pill each day. Once your thyroid is under control usually your appetite will be more in line with what it should be.
I feel like I don't have much to go on here. What sort of classes are you doing? What are you eating? What bad habits? Would you be willing to grow some willpower?
I have a bowl of fruit on my counter. If I am hungry before meals, I have to have a piece of fruit before I eat anything else. Usually this takes care of the starving feeling. I would typically reach for cookies, so this way I am making sure I get my fruit in too.
While you are changing your eating habits, change the size of the plates you use to eat off of. The smaller plates will fill up quicker and you will shrink your stomach doing so.
If you should go out, get the small meal not the medium or large size. The small size is all you need. Change up the types of food you eat and do eat more veggies and fruit. Cut down on the sweets and chips. Above all else, drink a lot more water without the flavoring. Plain water is what your body needs not the "stuff" that they promote for a taste so you drink in calories you don't need. Do go walking for about 30 minutes a day and then build up to a hour a day. Put baby in a carriage and push so you both get fresh air.
Remember it took time to get pregnant, it takes time to lose the weight and it takes a bit more time to get back into shape as to pre baby size. You can do it. You just have to do it. Keep a journal so you know when you are slacking off.

PS Breastfeeding does make you eat more. Now you have to unlearn what you learned while feeding two.
I agree with Isn'tthisfun.... Drink water every time you think you're hungry.
I'm fortunate to never have had a weight issue I didnt BF either.... however.... I do believe in preventative measures. I have a noisemaker on my fridge with the sound of a pig.. It makes you stop and think!!! I also have a pretty gross pic posted in my pantry to make me stop and think.
That type if thing motivates me to not add chips to my tuna, etc and I drink a ton of water daily. Make water fun.., I infuse it with all sorts of fruits, mint, etc

I'm in the same boat! I'm trying to change the way I eat, and I am exercising every day --even if it's only 10 minutes of yoga. I'm feeling better, and building more muscle, so I'm hopeful the weight will start coming off.
