I asked a Q yesterday about my gassy 9 month old baby. I tried gripe water and yogurt. It is not what I am eating. I have had tooth pain and been taking motrin a lot. Does anyone know if that could cause gas in an infant?

What can I do next?

Oh my goodness yes! My son had a terrible problem when I would take Motrin (while nursing) and then when he was older and I would give it to him for shots, etc. He gets gas every time. He also was/is very sensitive to artificial sweeteners (aspartame is brutal to his little belly) so no diet sodas or treats for us!

My DD gets pretty gassy sometimes... when it seems painful I give her an abdominal massage (Take off her diaper and stroke downward on the space under her belly button, then little clockwise circles) Usually that will help her pass some gas (or poop... but that works too) It helps when she's constipated too. :)

I don't know about the motrin. Are you breast feeding? For that it helped for us to be she finished one breast completely before the other side. Also sitting her up for burping rather that going up to my shoulder.

I'd say that if that is the ONLY thing that has changed in your or his diet then yes it very well could be the large doses of motrin you are taking. If anything else has changed then examine those things as well to try to figure out this gassiness. Something else you can try is get him a good infant probiotic.
