Gdiapers

Is anyone else frustrated with the outrageous shipping charges by gdiapers?

I absolutely love their product but have now reached the love/hate relationship status with the actual company. I recently ordered a few more "covers" and knowingly agreed to pay too much for shipping. I immediately sent them an email expressing my feelings about the shipping. Afterall, if they are truly trying to inspire "green" choices, they should make every effort to make it affordable. The cost of the product is one thing, shipping is totally different. I received a response stating that they are still a small company and do not receive the shipping discounts that larger companies do ... and that when they reach that status they will pass the savings to their customers.

When my package arrived, the actual shipping cost was clearly indicated on the box. $4.80 is what the USPS charged gdiapers. $13.35 is what gdiapers charged me!!!!!

Now, maybe they had to walk or bike with my package to the post office, therefore using a lot of time. Maybe they had to drive a long distance and burned a lot of fuel. I cannot know. I do know from lots of personal shipping experience, that it took them no more than 5 minutes to prepare the box for shipping.

What a shame that they are making their product unaffordable with the shipping costs! Before shipping, the cost difference between regular disposables and gdiapers is minimal and worth the extra to make a "green effort".

What can I do next?

I'd go through Diapers.com. Someone said they don't ship to APO, and they just recently changed that. My account through them ships to my APO here in Japan so it's not a problem to get orders to an APO. Hope this helps!

Oh and small companies will overcharge on shipping because they are charging you for the packing materials, labels, ect used to mail the item.

I too have encountered this same issue with another company. We are a homeschooling family and I was looking for a microscope for my son. I found the ideal one and boy was it not cheap (over $300.00) The company wanted to charge me $70.00 for shipping! I ended up emailing them back and forth over this explaining to them that the cost they were quoting was exprbitant and unfair considering the fact that shipping to an APO is no different than shipping domesticaly within the United States. The ended up telling me they were a small business that had to hand carry the package to the local US Post office and the additional fees were due to that.

I kindly replied that the US Post office now picks up packages FREE OF CHARGE and then took screen shots of the actual shipping cost of the the microscope, highlighting the areas that showed the exact phone number to call to have the parcel picked up and the paltry less than $5.00 shipping fee that I should have been paying.

The company was unmoved and replied that they were not going to change their policies. Suffice it to say I ended up purchasing a different microscope from a different company. And I spread the word to all my homeschooling friends that were they in need of science supplies for their classroom to look at a more Military - family friendly company.

Just keep putting your foot down ladies and don't pay these ridiculous over charges. They are unfair and prejudicial.

Best of luck to you!

Report them to the Better Business Buerau and the USPS. Anyone that ships overseas tomilitary addresses tend to charge more sending it a APO. There has been talk in Congress about companies over charging us. They know it is a domestic US address but want tomake extra money doing it. The few companies I find that do not over charge is, Walmart, Pennys, Amazon and some clothing companies. YEs I hate it. I bought a 220 rice cooker from the Houston Texas for $30 and the shipping was $19 but I could not find one here. The BX only carried 110 cookers. You also need to send a letter to the comany President and your Congressman and Senator and CC them also on the the letter to the company Pres so they can see there is a problem out there. Write them a letter explaining it and to make some kind of legislation to hold companies laiable and fine them for overcharging for shipping to military overseas. There is no reason for them to do this except to make more money.Everyone should write there Congressman and Senators about this because it is a big problem. I do a lot of shopping online cause we support 6 bases here and there is never anything here including jeans for my kids!

http://www.diapers.com/ has gdiapers and free shipping over $49. They don't ship to APO, but you could ship to a friend/relative in the States to forward. Also, they are in more and more stores now, even a grocery store in Erie, PA, not the most progressive town by any means, so if you have a friend/relative who could buy them at the store and mail them that would reduce the cost. I hate paying for shipping. Many sites that have free shipping deals exempt APO, probably because the USPS is such a pain to deal with as opposed to UPS of Fedex. Very frustrating.

I just ordered my son some shoes and decided to order two pair (in different sizes) instead of one to distribute the cost of the shipping.

I ordered a stroller in March and it still hasn't arrived. The company is waiting for another to come in so they can send a replacement shipment. I am grateful to have the APO, but I do miss fast, hassle-free, free shipping from UPS and Fedex.

I do have gdiapers, but since we moved back overseas (Korea) , I have been using my cloth diapers (Bum Genius and Fuzzi Bunz) and Natural Choice better disposables (chlorine free and made of corn) for the CDC, which are available at the commissary here.

Maybe you could request them at the commissary. If they get those starter kits and then the refills maybe others would start using them.

Good luck!

I shop on ebay ALL the time because I am tire of prices at the px or shipping prices that are just a waste of money.

I find having items shipped to my APO equally frustrating. I often order...and then 2 weeks after the order I am contacted by the company saying they don't ship to APOs!! I found a company called APO box who forward goods from companies to APOs. http://www2.apobox.com/faq_apo.php They are quite helpful and will even repack your goods if they don't meet APO weight/size requirements.
