I am SO upset right now I feel sick! Our 10 year anniversary is coming up in a few weeks. My husband ordered me a beautiful ring. I just tracked it with the post office online and it said it was out for delivery for last Saturday. It was never delivered! The most recent tracing says that there are no updates as of Sunday. I called the post office and talked to the manager and he said there is something weird going on and it wasn't even scanned for delivery. So he said he will talk to the driver and see what happened and then get back to me. He said if there is no way at all that they can find it, then it's our loss. I am furious! This post office is the same one that I've had a problem with in the past with loosing my mail that I send out (which is why I only send out certified now). I guess I don't really have a question, but since I have to, what should I do? The ring was close to $200. So not that much to some of you, but for us it's a lot! I'm in a panic right now over this. I'm so upset. If we loose this, then that's it's. We can't afford for him to buy another one. Ok, I'm going to go and cry right now.

So What Happened?

Ok, feeling a bit better. My husband did insure it. He ordered it through overstock. He called overstock a few minutes ago and he told them what happened. They said they will look into it and if nothing shows up then they will ship us another one asap and we should have it no later than 4 days. I don't think he choose to use our local post office to have it shipped to. It's just how it happened when he ordered it. I do have a bad feeling that someone stole it. It's really a beautiful ring! But I am thankful that overstock is understanding and helping us out. Thank you!

If you ordered it and never received it the merchant should replace it.

People do follow delivery trucks and mail carriers looking to steal items.

Call the company where he bought the ring and report it. Because they are the "sender", they are the ones who should be doing the bulk of the calling or should replace the item. I would also go to the post office (don't just call) and insist that they look through the "lost mail" bin. They have one- I have "found" quite a bit of my mail in that bin over the years.

Talk with the sending company and see what they can do. Good luck.

I'm soooo sorry!! If the ring was not insured then there really isn't much the USPS can do for you. When a package is insured, it is signed for each step of the way.

I would go to the person or place from which you bought the ring and tell them to raise heck with the post office as well. You CAN file a complaint and you MAY be able to get money for it - however, they may say 'pshaw' since it wasn't insured. I would still try. Fill out a loss complaint and stay on them!!

GOOD LUCK!!

We had a similar situation around Christmas with an expensive light fixture we bought for our room. It was around $100. We called the company and let them know our package never arrived. They contacted the postal service, who then called us. We talked with a few people and they were not able to determine what happened to our package. It was even suggested that someone may have stolen it from our door step (we were home the day it was supposedly delivered and no one ever came to our door). We speak with and adore our postal carrier, but she was off the day of the incident and couldn't help. After a few days it was determined to be "lost" and the company sent us a replacement fixture. We were only asked that if the lost light was mailed at a different date to contact them and they would pay for return postage. Call the company that sent the ring. I imagine they will work with you.

That is a lot, and the sentimental value is even greater! You poor thing :(

Stay on the post office about this. Be that squeaky wheel that needs the grease. I'd even go as far as to call the police nonemergency number after communicating with USPS for a few days if the ring doesn't turn up.

I hope they find it!! Don't be sad :(

Something quite similar happened to me with a package from the Disney Store in November. I saw it was out for delivery, and it never arrived, and the Post Office couldn't find it. I contacted the Disney Store and they looked into it on their end, determined i never received it and sent a new package, no charge to me. AND, the original package turned up one day about a week later with no explanation. When i called Disney Store to let them know i was sending it back thy told me to keep the merchandise for my inconvenience.

This is NOT your problem, have your husband call the company he ordered your ring from and explain the problem. If they don't follow through you can dispute the credit card charge as you never received the merchandise.

I had this happen to a very important delivery from India. I was on it like white on rice, and still it didnt come... When i started becoming like a thorn in their sides. They started doing more to find it. They finally did a MONTH after it was suppose to have been delivered (certified and insured) It was in a post office clear across the other side of the Twin Cities, sitting in a bin of undeliverable mail. WHY was it there? They could only explain that it was hard to read, covered in burlap covering with a wax seal... so when asked why it was undeliverable. NO one gave me an answer other than, they THINK it was un-readable. So I gave the writing to about 20 people and NO one said they could NOT read it. So I complained again. I wanted to know why it was 40 miles away at a different office? they say they send all un-readable mail there because they have no room at the central office. They also mentioned that there was a note attached that stated they though it contained hazardous materials (due to the covering and wax seal)... it was clothing... but that they couldnt be sure till someone checked it out with a x-ray machine, and so it went there to be stored till that happened. I asked, why didnt it happen? They say... it got forgotten... hmm... I very rarely use the USPS anymore for anything but getting junk mail.

Your husband should have insured it, it only would have cost him about $5 or so. Contact the company he purchased it from and see if they have a loss policy where they replace it, many of them do, but not always depending on the sale terms. Additionally, the sender usually has to be the one who files the lost claim, so definitely make them aware.

Sorry, not much else you can do aside from harassing the post office to keep looking, you can file a loss report, but I believe it has to be 30 days missing before you can do that... they certainly aren't going to give you money for it! I am an online seller who has shipped thousands of items, I always insure something I can't take a loss on or easily replace. I have had things go missing, than show up months later, but that is pretty rare.

Was this ordered from a company? I would also call their customer service and put pressure on them so they also contact the Post Office. Since you ordered it and it's not delivered, the company you ordered it from needs to take it up with the Post Office.

If he paid for it with a credit card and you dont get sent a new one, call the creidt card company and cancel the payment. If you dont get what you order you dont have to pay for it. Dont cry. Just dont pay for it if the company doesnt send you another one.

It has to be replaced by the company he bought it from. Did you by chance order it from Amazon? They have been sending things through UPS, and then switching it over to the post office. I get notices saying it was delivered. Then it shows up in the regular mail in a day or two.

Where did you order it from? I would start with them and see how it goes
from there. If it turns out it was scanned and sent out for delivery to you,
then it is definitely the post office. If it was never scanned, then the
company might send a replacement. Good luck.

Contact the company your husband purchased the ring from and let them notify the post office that it has been lost. Maybe they will be able to do more than you as an individual.
When the post office lost a package from Amazon.com, I notified the company and they replaced the order.
The other thing is to send your husband down to talk with the manager of your local post office about the problems you are having with your mail. I complained a lot to our local PO both on the phone and in person, but that didn't seem to have any effect on the situation. Once my husband got involved the issues all but disappeared.
Good Luck.

Who sold it to you? The seller should be responsible for having it delivered to you and they can take it up with USPS. It sounds like it had a tracking code which means there was some sort of paperwork to make sure it was delivered. If it was never scanned for delivery and never signed for then go back to the seller and tell them you never received the ring you ordered. Let them deal with the post office. If it was a regular retail store then they will send you another one.

I think there's a thief in that post office! I would fill out a "lost/stolen" form at the post office for them to reimburse you the value of the ring, bring the receipt. The second thing you can do is call the ring company and tell them it never made it to your house (show them the tracking info), and ask if they can send a replacement via UPS or FedEx. Also, send all your mail from work. Something fishy is definitely going on in your post office! Wouldn't hurt to file a complaint with local govt, the county or something. I bet you're not the only one getting their things stolen, and they need to catch these crooks!

2 years ago for Christmas, I ordered my grandparent's a personalized puzzle online (About $50). It said it would be here by Christmas, so I wasn't worried. Well, Christmas came and it still wasn't here. I still wasn't too worried, I just figured that it had taken longer than expected. I told my grandparents that their gift was on the way. Well, by the middle of January I was pissed. The package still hadn't arrived even though the tracker thing said it had. I called customer service for the company that I had ordered it from and explained the situation. They were very apologetic and told me that they were going to send another one out by air mail as soon as possible (Since it was personalized and it was coming from another country, it was going to take a little bit of time). Well, later that same week i got the puzzle that they shipped by air mail... And the next day I also received the puzzle that they had originally sent me. Lol.

Anyways, I would call the customer service for the company that your husband ordered it from and explain the situation. Hopefully they will send out another one for you.

Start with the shipper (company you made the purchase from). Did they insure it? Why not? It should have been insured and have a tracking number. It does not make sense that it was being tracked and then it disappeared like magic. Did they agree for it to be left at your door with no signature? Why? It is the shipper's responsibility to trace it and get a replacement to you.

Second, if you put it on a credit card, call your credit card company and tell them you never received the merchandise. They will put a temporary credit for the amount charged on your account and begin an investigation with the shipper to determine where it is and when you will receive replacement merchandise.

If you have trouble with this post office on a regular basis, why did you agree to have something shipped through them? There are a lot of good shipping companies out there that are reliable. We use a lot of FedEx and UPS. You might pay a little more but they have reliable tracking features and you get your order on time.

I realize I'm coming in on this late, but if Overstock hasn't sent out a replacement, ask them to ship it to a different address (like a work address), or get delivery confirmation/signature required at delivery.

If you plan to buy more online, you should get an American Express card and use it specifically for that purpose - they offer insurance on everything bought with their card. I've had a few disputes and they have been WONDERFUL! Also, find out who you can file a claim/complaint with re: your post office. Someone there is clearly stealing mail. Federal offense that they will take seriously. If nothing else, find out how to contact the Postmaster General. I am glad Overstock is helping you with this. Thank goodness it was insured!

Ugh, what a pain for you. For eight years I helped manage the Postal Service's national customer service department... so here's what I can tell you. If your husband didn't purchase insurance, USPS will not reimburse you for the cost of your package. You're better off talking to the shipper. It's very possible that the package is stuck somewhere in a lost mail bin. Call your LPO directly and ask them to check for you. Give them every possible combination and misspelling of your name and address because the shipper may have addressed it incorrectly. If it's not at your LPO, ask where else that package has been and call THAT LPO to see if it's still there. It's very difficult for a package to be scanned out for delivery if it isn't physically there. Someone takes a scanner and actually scans the bar code, so they need the package to do that. Therefore, the package has to be somewhere nearby.

Good luck - and do keep looking. Someone will find your ring eventually...
