I had this happen with Amazon but I didn't have to pay for return shipping. Also they reimbursed the extra I spent on expedited shipping.
I ordered something online, and it did not come until AFTER their promised delivery date.
It was free shipping to home. Usually, if the item is returned, I'd have to pay to ship it back... but because THEY messed up and it came late, will I have to pay shipping?
I'm not a happy camper right now :(
I can't get customer service on the phone because my stupid phone keeps dying, so in the meantime, I'm just looking to see if anyone else has been through this...
I have NOT opened the box, it's still outside because it weighs 62 pounds!! I have the bill, that's all I took off the box... yeah, I need to call them. They shipped it FEDEX, should I contact them?
@Denise, it says on the tracking information: PROMISED DELIVERY DATE: On or before 11/5/11
LONG STORY SHORT: don't buy from Wayfair, EFFE THEM!! Thank YOU FEDEX for taking care of me :)

It depends on the company/seller and how good their customer service is. Can you e-mail them?
Sorry R.! I know that sucks but unless you call them and get through to them to get a return label...I certainly would pay to ship it back to make sure they got it or then they'll claim they never got it back...then you're still on the hook ....:(
R.:
If you did not open the box, you should be able to mark it as "return to sender" and not pay postage. If you opened the box, you will have to call customer service and have them mail you a shipping label. I wouldn't pay for return postage unless I have spoken to them and have it in writing that they will reimburse shipping costs.
GOOD LUCK!!
You have to call the company and work out the details, usually they will ship you a postage label. FedEx is different than usps and their return to sender policy may not be the same if you accepted the package.
Also, even if you do ship it back free, you need to guarantee it has tracking to make sure they receive it so you receive your refund. Also, you need to check the company's refund policy to be sure you are entitled to one.
Contact the seller. They should be able to provide you a return shipping label via email. I ordered items from Party City and neither of the local stores would take the items back even though they were not "online only" items. I kept calling customer service and complaining until I got a manager who sent me a return shipping label (so it was not my cost). However, I returned it to a UPS store. Not sure the protocol for FedEx to pickup at your home.
They should send you a label for return shipping. Many places just send you a printable one through email. I've had the same thing happen. At first, they told me it was responsibility to pay shipping. I asked to speak to a supervisor, I told them I was disappointed and if I was not sent a label, I would have to take my business somewhere else. They didn't hesitate.
Don't contact FedEx. Call the company.
You can't mark a FedEx "return to sender" unless you can get the 62 pound box to a FedEx drop off site--USPS--sure, but not FedEx.
Usually delivery dates are a range (3-7 days) are estimated.
Did you miss an event because of it or did it just arrive after the delivery "window"?
When I worked in a women's boutique, we would mark "Refuse Delivery" on boxes that were late, same as return to sender but it relates to the company that their delivery date prompted the return. Good Luck!
Can you not use it because it came after it's promised delivery date? I'm a bit confused as to why that makes a difference in whether you or they would pay for shipping this time.
If that's the case (that you could only use it if it came on it's promised delivery date or before), then I would try to get a return shipping label from the company.
If that's NOT why you're returning it, then you should pay to ship it back just like any other package. If their mistake didn't affect you or the purchase in any way, then they shouldn't eat the cost.
