Getting Toddler to Nap in Big Boy Bed

I really don't want to shut the door and let him cry it out yet. Right now he does great he settles near me on the floor in the living room and just falls asleep. Yeah I know he should be sleeping in his bed but any advice as to how to get him there painlessly for both of us would be great. I have tried laying down with him like we do at night but he just won't settle in there during the day. At night 10 minutes of fussing and he's out during the day it just gets worse and worse and worse. We've screamed for an hour until he just crashed before. That's not how I want naps to be. He only takes one and it's only an hour. He chooses to nap on the floor I stopped forcing him to lay down. He sleeps 10 hours at night so I thought maybe he sleeps enough then and doesn't want to nap but that's not the case. Please no judgemental comments about it's my fault he doesn't nap in his bed for letting him start this habit in the first place. I have had enough of those in the past. If you're not going to offer kind answers don't bother.

What can I do next?

Be sure to let us know the turn out because I'm having a similar problem - my son also has starting battling naps since the big boy bed but does fine at bedtime. I've treatened to put him in the pack-n-play "baby bed" one day and that back fired- he said "ok". So I've been setting up the pack-n-play for naps- I work so this is just a weekend thing. It's not ideal but better than the alternative of no nap. This option may also be better for you than the living room option because I'm sure your activies (like vaccuming) are limited. He does sometimes still fuss in the pack-n-play but since he knows he is confined he settles down pretty quickly.

.... okay... to me, as long as he is sleeping... on the floor is just fine.
Both my kids did that at certain ages. It being a phase.
Sleeping on the floor is actually quite comfortable, to me. Personally.
It is also cultural for some people.

Its fine.
Don't worry.
Both my kids did that too.
I let them.
They got sleep that way... WITHOUT battling with them.
They sleep in their beds now.
Its fine.

all the best,
Susan

I am having napping problems since I transitioned my son to a big boy bed two weeks ago. He refuses to nap and then falls asleep randomly. I am so thrilled he falls asleep I don't care where he ends up. Napping on the floor is probably not ideal (for me at least because I can't get things done) but if it works and keeps him happy I say let him keep doing it. I don't think it is a big deal at all. Whatever works.
My son has not until tonight had troubles at night but today he fell asleep near his gate on the floor in his room.
Personally I would be thrilled to sleep so much but I guess kids don't feel the same!

This is how I transitioned my son to nap in his big boy bed.
We start getting ready for naptime after lunch. I usually start naptime routine an hour before nap. He just started a week ago with thisand has been doing amazing.
So after lunch I brush his teeth and wash his face with a warm washcloth. Then I change his diaper and make sure he has comfy clothes to sleep in. After that, we read his favorite books for around 30 minutes. I have him sit in his bed or on my lap while we do this.
Then I would stand up, turn off the light and rock him for 5-10 minutes, but he doesn't like to do this part of the routine anymore. I lay him down, and lay next to him on the floor with my hand up on the bed with him. We also have a rainforest noise thing that he can't sleep without, so I have that playing while we're rocking and until he falls asleep.
This routine has worked so great with my son. Maybe doing something similar would help you guys out?
Good luck!

My two dds NEVER napped in their beds. When they were babies, they napped in their pack 'n play. Then when they were older, they napped on a blanket on the floor or on the couch either in the living room or family room. When I take a nap, I don't sleep in my bed so why should they.

While they were napping, I did not keep quiet either. I wasn't excessively loud either. I really think them napping where there was activity really helped them to be sound sleepers.
