A pack of gum got left in a pocket and went through the washer and dryer. Anyone know how to get the melted gum out of the dryer? Thanks.

So What Happened?

After the gum hardened I was able to scrape it off with a plastic knife.

You should be able to warm it up with a hair dryer and use a paper towel to pull and wipe it off. This worked for me with a crayon, but it took a while.

try a magic eraser from mr. clean first...then goo gone. I know that goo gone works but it stinks to high heavens!

Hello

Once the dryer col off you should be able to scrape it off with a razor blade or sharp knife. Penut butter always work too. Put it on the gum and let it set for a minute and then it should get soft and wipe off.

Good Luck!

How Clean Is Your House recommends to rub ice on the gum to freeze it and scrape off as much as you can with a blunt knife.

If this method isn’t working, heat the gum in the dryer instead, then peel off the melted gum, using a plastic bag over your hand. I have not tried it, but I also heard you can spray OxiClean on the gum, then run the dryer for ten minutes with a wet fabric sheet in it and it will come off.

Goo Gone. This is a product that will nuetralize gum and lots of other sticky things, works great! Everyone should have a bottle of this on hand. You need to clean the area with some other cleaner like regular dish soap just to get the smell out of the dryer. It smells, but works great. Melaluca makes a product too, though I can't remember the name now, but they have an excellant line of cleaning and household products (along with many other products too) that are friendly to the envirnment.
You can get Goo Gone at a hardware store or Home Depot/Lowes.
Just FYI, I'm feelin for ya. I have 2 older and my three at home are 11yr old twins and a 14yr old.
I stay at home, (it's harder finacially, but well worth the peace of mind and sence of order, and that is something I can't redo).

Good Luck!

Hey S.,

What a bummer! I would use a product I use on all kinds of issues--I even use it to remove PERMANENT MARKER! It's called Sol-U-Mel and it's made by Melaleuca. NO harsh or caustic chemicals either!! None of their products have any poisons like all the other store brands. You can dilute it for many things like just tough cleaning around the house, or an air deodorizer, but I've used it full strength on purple marker on the carpet as well as black ink that dripped from a cartridge when I was changing ink in my printer. Got it all out!!
Gum....definitely!
You can't get it in stores, so if you are interested in it and about 400 products you normally buy at Walmart, let me know. The products are safer, healthier, extremely effective, more value--not more expensive! You could order today and have it in 2-3 days. Just switch stores.
Have a great day!! Oh-you could also make extra money with this company too-like me!

Hi.. You can apply the oil you use for cooking (vegetable, canola, or olive) on paper towel and scrub inside the dryer to remove the remains of gum. Good luck..

Try Goo Gone. It's stinky but works great. When you're done getting the gum off, clean the Goo Gone area with regular cleaner that smells nicer.
