Do you do it regularly? What was your experience with it? I really want to get one, but I'm not sure I have the guts to do it. I'm not embarassed really, I guess more uncomfortable with the idea of someone getting that "up close and personal" down there....BUT, I'm really sick of ingrown hairs from shaving and I am thinking about trying it. What do you think?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advice! I think I'll ask about it at my salon when I go in for a hair cut next week...can't hurt to try it at least once and I know my husband would love it :)

Love them. Take a couple of tylenol before hand, and apply a small bit of baby powder. It can help lessen the pain.

I absolutely love them.

I get ingrown hairs from shaving, but not waxing. Shaving also gives me burn (hurts and itches for days = for ever) so I have to use secret unscented deodorant to NOT get the burn, but that means no oral sex. (Ever get deodorant on your tongue? Ick).

Waxing (with a GOOD waxer) hurts for less than 5 minutes cumulative. Awesome. And it's great for months.

I can't afford them currently (at least not at a good place) so I don't get them... and miss them a ton. Sure, I can get it done cheap... and that is NOT worth it. You don't want someone inexperienced messing with your vajayjay. Someone who doesn't know what they're doing can leave you feeling "raw", and it hurts like crazy. Tip... if it hurts for longer than 3 seconds after the strip is pulled, they didn't do it right.

Where I go, my waxer waxes for 8 hours a day 5 days a week. That's what she does. I look at places where the waxer is also a nail tech or hair stylist... and know they do maybe 1 or 2 waxes a day and just shudder.

I've been doing them for years and love it. However, you have to find someone good (I've been through my share of BAD ones). There are also some waxes that are virtually painless. They also have to be heated but they are blue instead of yellow and are sometimes applied on top of a special cream; they are also costlier. I also waxed through my entire pregnancy. Didn't want to be in front of docs and nurses and dealing with a messy recovery while I was "not clean" down there.

I have had it done. Husband loved it!! I liked it, too, though I was always a little "raw" for the first few days. And I actually got ingrown hairs after my waxes, so I wouldn't do it as a way of avoiding those.
The pain level depends on how hairy you are, and of course it hurts worst the first time.
Don't be embarrassed -- these people have seen lots of coochies!
You should give it a try and see how it works for you. :)

After reading the responses below, I guess I got a baaaaaad gal (at a high-end place, no less) because I did everything right (went right after my period, took ibuprofin beforehand, etc.) and the pain was so bad I don't remember anything hurting so bad as that. BTW, I have a really high pain tolerance and had natural childbirth, so I'm no pain ninny. Anyway, I also got big old blood blisters afterward in the area, right before my vacation to Hawaii. Lovely!

I've never had it done again, but recently started laser hair removal on my bikini area and WOW! After just one session, the hair growth is significantly less. As in, it's been 6 weeks and I've shaved 3 times since the first session. Going for my second session tomorrow :)

Try it! I love it....though I don't get them while pregnant (which I currently am). I don't think about it and find someone you are comfortable with -- I used to talk to my wax lady downtown because she had done facials before for me and I was comfortable with her....I tried some new places and it was more uncomfortable because the lady stayed silent the entire time.

I agree with the posters below. If you decide to do it, a little tip. Don't go right before you get your period - the skin is much more sensitive. Right after is much less painful. Don't know why, but true. Good luck.

Yes, do it, but only if you have someone recommended to you that is discreet, fast and professional! I haven't done it in awhile due to cost...

Heck no! I don't even get my eyebrows waxed. I am WAY too wimpy and modest to do that! Good luck if you decide to do it though.

My neighbor thinks I am crazy for not trying it. Im pretty modest about my vajay and just havent had the guts to do it. She says it worth it, AND the first time she didnt have to shave for a month! I might try it.

I don't have the guts to do that. thought about it, but just uncomfortable I guess. I've tried waxing the whole kit&kaboodle myself - YIKES! never again! I swear I was sticking to things for days and it was not pretty. But good advice someone gave to find someone who only does waxes. Maybe if I ever have the need I'll save my $and start looking!

If you find a great salon with a professional -- ask if they'll give you a Brave the Brazillian discount for your first try. Or -- start with just a bikini wax for a time or two and then move up to the big kahuna! :) Once I started getting Brazilians - I've stuck with them, even while pregnant. I am looking into laser hair removal too -- but haven't done it yet.

You can also ask if they have a topical spray that kind of numbs/takes the sting out. My old salon used to have the stuff and it was awesome. I should actually call her and find out what it's called to tell the new salon! (I recently moved to a new state.)

Whatever you decide. Good luck!! I say give it a try -- at least once! :)
