Has anyone noticed difference in their child's diaper rash when switching between diapers? We use a brand of non-bleah/chlorine diapers just to be safer to the environment and our 1.2 year old's diaper rash immediately went away. I'm wondering if it's the diapers or what. She's over a year and shoiuldn't be getting diaper rash...
The brand is 7th generation. I'm wondering if anyone knows of the health benefits of using the non-bleached diapers or if it is better? (They don't quite hold the same about of wetness over night as pampers, but it still holds just as much poop.)
(Actually, it's only leaked about 3 times in the last month, each time over night (and she sleeps 10 hours at a time.)
Age doesn't have much to do with diaper rash, they can get it anytime until they are out of diapers. My cousin had a lot of trouble when a friend gave her a pack of diapers she hadn't used on her daughter before. Every baby is different and they can react differently to the chemicals in diapers. I'd ditch the new diapers and go back to whatever you were using before.

Congrats to all of you who are not only helping the earth, but most importantly, your children. Yes, there is much out there about things linked to disposable diapers that have chemicals and other man-made products in them. I applaud all of you for doing your research. You can take it one step further, if you haven't already. Not only do diapers have nasty things in them, but so do the skincare and diaper rash products that you put directly on your child's skin! Do your homework about baby oil, vaseline, etc. These are petroleum based products that are very bad! If you are interested in a complete line of the most pure and botanically based products made specificially for the skin of a newborn and child, then contact me. You will be surprised at the difference and how you are helping your child's skin be protected from all that they are exposed to. Even things we can't see. Something to really think about. She may have had an allergy to the other type of diapers. My daughter is like that. She's sensitive to certain perfumes and such. I don't know anything about non bleached diapers, but I would be that they're better.
There is a latex derivative in theses diaperrs as well as other skin sensitive chemicals. So yes absolutely your child could be sensitive. We like g diapers they seem to hold more.

I love that brand. I use it as much as I can. My daughter is 9 mo and she had a diaper rash only 2-3 times in the very beginning when I did use Pampers Swaddlers. We change her very often, probably too much even, but that helps prevent diaper rash. Even now, we're trying to use up the left over Pampers, but at night we put on 7th gen. and they have not yet leaked anything. I like that they aren't as bad in the landfills as the regular ones and also good for her. Congrats and I'm glad you're thinking about her future re: Mother Earth!!!!!
i have also heard some good things about g diapers. does anyone else have experience with them?

I have definitely noticed a difference. We use cloth diapers on our girls but switch to Tushies diapers when we go out of town. My oldest would adjust to the Tushies when we used them but we could tell she prefered the cloth once we got back home. My younger daughter doesn't like anything but cloth. Anytime we use a Tushies on her, she wants to get it off. There are a lot of chemicals in conventional diapers - that's what makes them so absorbent. Your child is also breathing those chemicals. I've seen some websites that say that the chemicals cause asthma. I haven't seen any studies that prove it but why take the chance?
I applaud you doing something that is better for the environment. I would say any diaper that has less chemicals is better for your baby. We've tried 7th Generation diapers when use disposables and we like them too.

Absolutely. The kind of diapers definitely make a difference. Her age actually shouldn't make a difference as to whether or not she gets a rash. There are so many chemicals in disposable diapers that even though they are super absorbant, its the chemicals that make the diapers work that irritate skin. The chemicals and lack of air in there, pull all the moisture (even natural skin moisture) away from your child.
7th Generation is definitely a much better alternative to the other brands. And no, they are not going to hold up like the others, but you are doing your daughter a favor as well as the earth.
I don't know the specific health benefits for girls (I have boys), but I do seem to remember that those chemicals in "other" store bought diaps were linked to infertility in boys. Something about all the chemicals and the high temperature that wreak havoc on the testicles. My guess is that one probably wouldn't want to use something on girls that might cause infertility in boys.
If you google "health issues when using disposable diapers" or something along those lines, there are some very interesting (and scary) statistics. I am sure that I wrote more than you needed (or wanted) to know. We use cloth, so I am used to having to do LOTS of diaper changes a day.
