HELP! Trying to buy a new vacuum and would love to hear if you have either a Dyson Animal (either the DC41 or DC25) or the Miele (Calisto s5 Callisto or s7 Cat & Dog). They are comparable on price, but would love to know your thoughts on either of these brands & models listed. We have mostly wood and tile floors (only play room has carpet) and we have a dog and a cat. Tired of sweeping and Swiffering!! Any concerns with either? Thank you so much!!!!

What can I do next?

I've never heard of the Miele, but have to say that I fantasize about the day I am able to own a Dyson!!!! I've used one that a lady that I cleaned for had and that thing is an animal! We had a rug in the garage that was as nasty as nasty could get. Ashes, leaves, dog hair, etc. My husband said that if I could get THAT THING cleaned with a dyson, then he would be sold. I borrowed one from my SIL and got that thing looking brand new in 5 minutes! I have mostly tile (hallway, kitchen, bathrooms, another hallway) and then carpets in the living areas. It would save my sanity!!!

Miele is a vacuum you buy for life. Dyson is expensive but won't last. I have been warned by many a vacuum shop owner to never buy a bagless vacuum. They just don't last no matter how expensive they are.

I have had furry dos for 27 years (total). I've had my Dyson Drive for about 6 years now. Sure wish I'd had it or the other 21! LOL
I was looking at the Animal, but the only real difference is the attachments, etc. ANY Dyson would be GREAT for pet hair. And mine is 6 years old and going strong. IF it would explode tomorrow, I would buy another O. immediately. Love mine!

We love our DC-25. It's the white and blue engineer's version; we call it R2-D2.

My neighbor bought a Miele and her cleaning ladies refuse to use it because it is so heavy.

I dont own either but i remember that Consumer Reports said the dyson animal did not work well on pet hair.

I have the Dyson Animal - I bought it off of Amazon right after Christmas at a discounted price.

Before, I had always had $100 vacuums which would break after @ a year or two.

I have a dog and two children and the three of them generate LOTS of dirt in the house. We have some carpet, but mostly hardwoods.

I have been SOOO happy with the vacuum. It cleans WAY better than the less expensive ones I had before. I LOVE it. Right after I got it, I vacuumed the carpet thoroughly with my old vacuum, and then used the Dyson after. The dyson picked up TONS of stuff, even though I had already vacuumed. It is great with pet hair and getting dust/dirt out of carpet. I dont have a problem at all with it on hardwoods - I just put it on the floor setting. Also, I have a Shark Steam Mop which I go over the hardwoods with after vacuuming. I like it better than the Swiffer wet mop I had before.

After two years - something stopped working on it. I took it to a repair shop and found out that it was still under warranty - so free to fix!

I've definitely found that the Dyson Animal is worth the price tag.

I have the Dyson DC25 and I LOVE it. It is by far the best purchase in my opinion!! I use it almost daily and it gets the smallest things cleaned up! I use it on my tile and wood and have not had any issues with it at all :)

I did look at a Miele in the past but honestly can't remember why I didn't get it.

I'd love to see what and how Consumer Reports tested the dyson and why they thought it didn't work well on pet hair. If you search past posts from past questions there are TONS of us with pets, multiple pets and kids and husbands who love, LOVE, LOVE our Dyson because it does work well. On pet hair!

Now having said that, since you do have mostly hardwoods I'm not sure it would be the best choice. I also have mostly hardwoods, but have a large rug in every room which is where I use my Dyson. I have a central vac that I use for the hardwoods specifically.

I have 2 Dyson vacuums (one upright and one canister) and love them both. Of course, like any vacuum you do have to maintain them (clean the filters regularly, clean off the beater bar, etc). As advertised, they do not seem to lose suction, ever! We have 2 black cats, and white carpet (and some wood flooring, and some marble flooring), and when people visit us, they don't know we have cats. My Dysons work really well! I would recommend the Dyson without reservation.
