I am currently pregnant with our first baby (a girl!!). My husband and I both work full time days and will need to place our infant in childcare when she is 10 weeks old. Unfortunately we don't really have many friends/family members who use daycare. I'm looking for referrals in the south minneapolis/richfield/edina area for in home infant care. Super scared about this...are there any recommendations out there? Also wondering what the average pricing is per week in this area? Thank you so much!!

What can I do next?

For prices, refer to the RATES posted on Resources for Childcaring, under the PARENTS tab. It is technically illegal for MN providers to discuss rates openly. It is considered price fixing. As far as I know, MN is the only state that has this law, stemming from a court case 20+ or so years ago. The site is also a great resource for many other childcare related things.

As far as licensed providers, here are 2 internet resources I give to all parents I can not assist when I do referrals for my small association (I am not in your area..I am in Brooklyn Park/Brooklyn Center).

www.mnchildcare.org
www.providershoice.com

Both will have an option to "search for childcare in MN" and will have a search engine via city name or zip code. It does not mean they have an opening, but will be licensed providers that you can call to question.

Good Luck!

We looked at in-home daycares but in the end decided on a nanny. We found the one-on-one care at that young age important. But there are drawbacks to every childcare option so I found it one of the most difficult decisions. If cost is an issue you could try to find another family with similar age infant who would be interested in a nanny share. If you go this route check out care.com I've found both of our nannies through this site.

I live in Plymouth and charge $45/day. Craigslist is where I advertise for my families. Any red flags and just simply don't go there. You will find the right option. :)
Talk to neighbors, people at church, etc. Even ask theparents with a young one you meet at the grocery store. People are willing to help if you just ask.
Good luck and Congrats!

I utilize an in home daycare in S. Minneapolis for my little girl. The caregiver is named Cheryl Abraham (Fischer). I switched to her when my daughter was a year old and have been very happy. My daughter adores her, which is also a good feeling. She typically keeps a larger group- around 10 kids, but somehow she manages it all amazingly well. I pay 180/week, but it may be more for an infant. My daughter is 3. I think she's on a lot of the daycare sites, but let me know if you want her number. Good luck in your search.
