Help - Insect Bites on Baby

Well you can put creamy diaper rash ointment, like A&D or desitin, on the bite after she is already bit to make the redness and swelling go away.

There are Vitamin B1 patches out that I haven't tried yet but I am going to try them. I know there a few different brands, but here's just one article about them:

Im not sure how well it works for all bugs but if its mosquitos you can use a lavender scented body spray or lotion. My 2 yr old was getting bitten like crazy with the same welts. I found a travel size body spray at walmart for a dollar and keep one in her room, one in the car and one in the diaper bag. I spray her once when we get dressed in th am, if i know we will be outside playing and I spray her blanket at night. It's her new magical bed bug spray. :-) She hasn't had a bite since.

Are you sure they are bug bites? Turned out to be hives on my little girl (allergic reaction). Just a thought! Can you post a photo? The wise mamas on this forum helped me figure it out. Good luck

My kids use BullFrog sunscreen with insect repellant. It has little to no smell.

For treating bits there is a product called 'After Bite for Kids' that I have used. There is also a good one for Fire Ant Bites. It comes in a yellow tube and says specifically for Fire Ants.

I heard wiping off skin with a dryer sheet and then putting the sheet in your pockets works.

For healing, Use a dab of diaper rash creme....

I have used AVON Skintastic. It doesn't have DEET in it. Also, I heard that if you are using something with DEET in it, not to put sunscreen on also. I guess the 2 mixed together can be really bad. Hope it helps.

I've heard that Avon Skin So Soft will keep bugs away, and that it's safe for the baby.

A good way to get rid of the bites she already has is to rub a small amount of rubbing alcohol on the spots.

our pediatrician recommended skin so soft bug reppelent with sunscreen. It doesn't have deet in it, and works very well. We put it on our little boy when we go to the drive-in. There is also a product called cactus juice that is also pediatrician approved.

Burts Bee's makes an all natural repellent. It works great, you can find it at whole foods or even order it online.

Check at Walmart for bug bracelets. My Walmart was out of stock when I looked for them about a month ago. They are in the repellent section and I heard they are awesome. You can put it around her ankle.

Also, I use an Aveeno anti-itch cream, (don't have it with me to check the actual name). It's in the section with other hydrocortisone creams and stuff. The pharmacist said it was safe for my almost 2 year old.

We used to have the same problem. The mosquitoes are SO bad this year. I used to use OFF but it wasn't good enough for my son (now 20 months) & I -- we still got bitten on our morning runs. I now SWEAR by BURT'S BEES INSECT REPELLANT. Since we started using it, neither of us has had a single bite, *and* it stays on when you sweat. It is made entirely of natural oils, so it is a little greasy, but I find it works well to spray it into my hand, then rub it on like lotion. Like any bug spray, just don't put it on your daughter's hands or face. I usually put a little stripe on my son's arms, on his legs, and a tiny dab at the base of the back of his neck. Works like a charm! You can buy it at Market Street, Whole Foods, and usually at Central Market though they've been sold out lately.

I don't know about prevention, our son is older, we use Off. But I did want to tell you a treatment for bites that is the BEST I've ever found! BURT'S BEES BUG BITE RELIEF. The only place I've found it is Academy and it's $4.99, but my family swears by it. It is instant relief and you never think about the bites again!

There are a ton of products out for kiddos...you can get ANYTHING without DEET in it and be fine. We use something called California Baby...has SPF sunblock and citroneela bug protection..no PABA, etc...it is a really good product. If we don't have that with us or something, sometimes we use a Deet-free kid's sunblock/bug lotion made by Bullfrog.
