Help Introducing Sippy Cup!

Out little one just turned one this past June 11th. We've tried introducing a sippy cup since she was 10 months old. She'd look at it, bite it and then toss it. Is there a better way to get her to drink from it? Our oldest one is 16 years old now and it was never this hard to get her to do anything. We feel like we're first time parents all over again. Please help! I could use any suggestions to help us get our daughter to move from bottle to sippy cup.
Thanks!

I'm having the same problem with my 10 mo. old now. I have bought the Gerber, Dr. Brown's and Nuby sippy cups. She gives the Nuby cup the most chance, I think because its silicone spout is more like the bottle. She takes about one sip and is done with it though. I think frequent exposure will be the key. I have also heard that a straw works well...Sometimes we will put our finger over the straw to fill it and then drip a little water into her mouth...Good luck to you!!

When I transitioned my kids to the sippy cup, I used those that did not have the rubber "stoppers". They can leak but the sippy has a different feel to it than a nipple and it can be odd for a child. They don't quite know what to do with it at first. It took about 2 months but eventually they learned that liquid comes out of that opening. Then I gave them the no leak ones and they took it in stride much more easily.

A friend told me that she took out the valve on the tip. By taking the valve out it will allow the liquid to flow easier. She did this until her daughter got used to the sippy cup. I'm not sure the type of cup she used, so I'm not sure if they are all the same. My son is only 6 months, we are not quite ready for sippy cups. This was something that I remebered that I might need in the future.

We just kept trying and trying with our 10 month old (and our 3 y/o when he transitioned). I tried all the different ones for our older son (softer sippy, handles, etc). With our youngest, I just started giving him water in the "take and toss" cups and after about a week or so - he got it. He's a pro at this point, lol.

I 've heard that you need to pick a cup and stick with it. Just keep offering it to her . Eventually she will get it. My twins hated their sippies at first so we would put water with a little juice in them to go to the store. we didn't push it at every meal at first ,just to go.We use the playtex cups. They are made of plastic that isn't harmful and come in 4 stages . The lids are interchangable too.I nuke the whole milk in a pyrex measuring cup. One cup for 40 seconds . They say not to nuke in plastic and this works for us :)I hope this helps!

Just keep at it. Maybe at meals, like cereal & finger food only offer a sippy and save a bottle for first thing in the morning and evening. If she doesn't have a choice, when she gets thirsty enough she'll take it. This may sound a bit harsh, but my pediatrician is the one who recommends this. She suggested saving milk for the bottle and using water and or juice for the sippy. That helps create the "distinction" that it's different.

My kids loved the Nuby's (also from Wal-Mart). The silicone top was soft like a bottle. I think this worked best because they were still teething too.

I hope this helps!

We had a hard time with my 2 year old; we started the cup with him at 12 months as well. I found one kind that worked really well - the Gerber NUK cups seemed to work the best (you can get these at Walmart). Just be careful; when he was about 15 months old he learned to push the sippy part into the cup and pour it all over. We're introducing the sippy cup to my 9 month old now, and he loves the Nubby ones from Walmart. He's done really well with it. Another option is to just try a sippy cup with a straw. Both of my boys picked this up very quickly.
