Does anyone know where I can take a class on french braiding? Or are there individuals that teach this? I bought a book and have tried to learn, but have not been very successful with it. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

I would go to a salon and ask one of the hair stylists there to teach you. You could even bring your daughter to have them show you. I know they will usually do the braiding for a small fee and most would be fine with having you watch and maybe giving some pointers. If they can't do it at the salon, maybe someone could teach you on his/her day off. I also know a great stylist in North Dallas if you need a recommendation.

Best of luck!

You may also want to watch a you tube video to see if it clicks for you.

Good luck,

Believe it or not, I saw some classes in the Recreational magazine for Plano. You can log on to their website and find the one closest to you that offers the class.

I was a competitive figure skater and dancer growing up and my mom french braided my hair into oblivion. I can do my own without a mirror. It's just a learning thing.

I second the previous recommendation. Talk to a hair stylist about having them teach you.

As far as tips and pointers - make sure her hair is dirty. Clean hair is really slippery and it won't hold, especially if it's fine. If she's just washed it, spray some hairspray on the loose hair before you start and let it dry. That will give it some texture and help it hold. Once you get going with it, practice will help you get better!

Good luck!

Look on the internet for some videos. There has to be some out there somewhere. You will have to practice a lot to get it down. It is a learned skill. I agree with the previous post, the hair stays better if it's dirty. If it is not dirty, do it wet. It stays in place better that way too. Good luck and just practice while watching tv one night.
