Learning to Let My Hair Down?

Ok this is a funny question, but here goes. I am a confident woman, I like myself and my looks etc. But for some reason I have this thing where I just can NOT let my hair down in public. I basically always have it pulled back in a librarian bun kind of thing. Mind you it is a cute bun, hehe. Anyways I have been growing my hair out and I just want to get the guts to wear it down some day so if anyone has tips please let me know. I am OK with having it down at home with my husband and daughter. I don't really go to a hair salon or stylist and I have no idea whatsoever how to do anything with my hair, in terms of styling etc. Basically I wash, condition, brush and pull it back, occasionally straighten bangs. I don't want to have to do more than that either, or buy any more hair products... so thanks for any tips!

What can I do next?

Try a stylist just once. Jody at Salon Seven is AWESOME!! She can cut it so it has a nice shape and then show you how to style it.

You can do it!! :)

I totally agree with the 2 ladies. You should visit a salon. Not to discourage you from wearing it down, but it can be frustrating if it is just there. Especially with the weather. It is so hot right now! Is is curly? Is is straight? A stylist can help you determine what the best style is for you. If its curly, you can have a few layers cut and it will bounce the curls up. If its straight you can have a few face framing layers without having to layer it all!. It will also look better but also be easier to comb through if you trim the dead ends. One last thing, take baby steps. You can try a ponytail or french braid, Its somewhat down? Good Luck to you.

I didn't like having my hair down, mostly because it was always in my face. Now that my hair is below my shoulders, it is easier for me to have my hair down. I, Personally, don't go too often to a stylist. I can't find one willing to style long hair which is a bummer, since I do know that long hair can be styled.

I recommended finding a good stylist you like and can talk to. I had my hair styled so all I had to do was blowdry it a little with a flip brush or I could put it up out of my way when I needed to. You will feel the difference from the begininng.

Also, if you have the time, find some books on braiding and other ways to do up your hair. Hair can be such an art if you are willing to take some time to work with it. I like to put my hair in simple braids, buns, french braids and french twists, when I have the time.

I do the reverse, I wear my hair up at home and down when I go out. I don't want people to think I am lazy or I don't take care of myself/hair when I go out. The only time I wear it up is if it is super hot or when the air goes out in the car like it did this weekend.

Are you shy and that is why you don't want to wear your hair down when you go out?

Like everyone else, go to a Salon and get some tips on how to wear your hair down. I am sure that they will give you lots of pointers and help you out.

Good Luck

"let your hair down" girl!!! oh , i used to keep it in a bun all day to keep cool during work & then when you "let it down" at night it actually looks great! so wavy & sexy! but, you just need a style that makes YOU feel comfortable. when i was about 30 i started to hate my hair down & it was because it was just too long & boring for me, once i got some layers & went shorter i felt so much better like my do was age appropriate & sexy. good luck.... just be willing to make a change & have fun! :) btw....i love your " a little about me"

Is it a confidence thing or a convience thing?
I have semi-long hair (middle of my back) and two things happen when I wear it down
1. I am hot in this weather.
2. men come on to me.

I promise I am invisable to men when I have my trusty mom ponytail and kids in tow but when the hair tumbles down and is curled slightly, I have to fight them off. Soooo, I usually do it (for both reasons) when I go out on 'dates" with my husband. It is cooler at night to wear the hair long and he is there and the sex appeal is for him.

I would encourage you to embrace your sex appeal (I know a short cute "do" can be sexy but face it most men prefer long hair on a woman) in baby steps by trying first on "dates" with your husband.
