Help! Women's Hospital or St. Luke's

Hi all,

Does anyone have any advice as to the better hospital to deliver at, Women's or St. Lukes. I took a tour of Women's, and thought that it was pretty average looking. I have not been to St. Lukes. My only real issue with Women's is that I'm nervous that I won't get a private room. It seems that its a first come first serve basis.

On the other hand, I heard that at St. Lukes you have to deal with residents. My son's birth was a bit dramatic to say the least (5 weeks early, etc) so I'm not too thrilled with the thought that residents would be providing care to me and my baby.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

What can I do next?

Everyone loves their own hospital so I don't think you'll get a definite answer here. I have heard great things about both.

I had both my girls at St. Lukes. The nursing staff is very good there. And God forbid you need it, but Texas Childrens is literally a hallway away. I worked in the medical center for several years and am a BIG fan of St. Lukes.

If you are not comfortable with residents, explain your concerns to your physician.

I agree--Women's was great. you have a nurse that stays with you the whole time--seriously--she doesn't leave and the care was great. The food was good too--it's done room service style-whenever you want and as much as you want--I was actually impressed by the meals. Unless it is super crowded, you will most likely get a private room. The day I delivered it was packed, and since I had my baby in the middle of the night, I had to share a room, but then the next day I was moved to a private room. I have also heard that Methodist is good--they are all private rooms there. The good thing about Woman's is that you will never have a resident/student and the NICU is top of the line, just in case. That to me meant more than a private room.

I would recommend the Women's Hospital anyday. I had my baby there not too long ago and have had multiple surgeries there. They are absolutely wonderful and the amount of calling and checking they did on us after the surgeries was very impressive. They have a great staff and a great facility.

i would say go look at st luke's and then pick which would be the better hospital for you and your baby!i work at woman's hospital and it is true about the private rooms...even if the private rooms are full their are always people discharging through out the day,so if you are moved into a semi-private room at first it is a possibility a private room will open up.

St. Luke's!

If baby need help they send them to Texas Children's NICU. They have "Mother-Baby" care which means that baby stays in room with you the whole time! No more taking baby to the nursery for bath or check-up! They do it all in your room with the baby next to you. Clean spacious rooms, fabulous staff and great security. And, worse case scenario, if you need extra help St. Lukes is an excellent hospital for adults. We loved our experience.

As far as the "Residents" go - I think that is specific to your doctor. Our doctor did not use residents so we didn't even think about that. Maybe you should ask your doctor is he/she has residents cover for him/her.

You should definitely tour both facilities before making a decision.

God Bless
