I have a doctor appointment coming up right around the corner, so if I don't have too, I don't want to rush in there right now. I am just curious, how do you know if you are slowly leaking amniotic fluid? For the past few days to a week, ive been noticing a lot of watery clear, stuff and im not sure what it is? I'm sorry if this is TMI, it's just im really curious as to what it could be. Thank you!

What can I do next?

it could be pee or fluid, if you think it may be fluid GO TO THE ER ASAP because it could cause an infection or baby could die because the sac is low on fluid

Get to a doctor right now, even the ER if it's necessary. Why take the risk of waiting for an appointment? If it's amniotic fluid you could be miscarrying right now. There is no way for you to tell by yourself. Please don't wait for more replies here, get medical treatment and stay safe!

If you get there and it's nothing big, wouldn't you rather be wrong than endanger the baby? Please see a doctor.

I would get it checked out. If it is amniotic fluid, you need medical attention. Not worth taking chances.

I would call your OB/GYN, now, and tell him/her.
Don't guess.

This is a quick way to know but not absolute... Smell it, amniotic fluid smells sweet and well you know what pee smells like. LOL If it is fluid, you need to let your Dr. know and follow their advise.

I was in the ER twice cause I thought I was leaking fluid, however it was just a lot of clear very normal, very watery discharge. It lasted my whole pregnancy to the point I needed pads, totally gross, but nothing to worry about. Call and ask the doc what they want you to do but chances are if it's not a gush, they will just check at your regular appointment. Like everyone else said, the color and odor, as well as the amount (I was told not to really worry unless I was soaking a pad an hour, then to go back in to be checked again) can help determine if it's amniotic fluid or not, and if there is a reason to be concerned.

I am a midwife. Smell the fluid. Amniotic fluid smells sweet. The doctor can do a swab test to see if it is in fact amniotic fluid. If it is, DO NOT LET ANYONE STICK THEIR FINGERS INSIDE YOU. This raises the risk of infection. You can go weeks with a ruptured amniotic sac. The body will continue to produce amniotic fluid. It is best for the baby to stay inside as long as possible until labor kicks in on its own. There is no risk of infection as long as no one sticks anything inside you. So, just say no to cervical exams.

I would call your Dr and talk to them about it. If you're leaking, your Dr should know. Good luck!

I leak maybe for 3 weeks before my induction, I told the doc ( I have visits every week) and never did nothing about it. call your doc office and talk to the nurse she will give you a better response on what to do.

I leaked amniotic fluid before my labor started. Though very little came out (barely needed a pad), it felt like a distinctive gush. I thought i was peeing my pants before I figured it out. But the only way to know is to have it tested in the Dr. s office or hospital.
